The Music of the Deep
The Music of the Deep | Elizabeth Hall
5 posts | 4 read | 9 to read
Fleeing an abusive marriage and tormented by her past, Alexandra Turner finds solace in a small coastal town on Puget Sound and a job with a local marine biologist studying orcas. After befriending a group of locals, Alex learns that she has moved to a place that has a reputation of being the "most haunted town in Washington." Such superstitions would be easy to dismiss...if Alex wasn't already on edge. Haunted by shreds of memories of her days with her husband, Alex can't keep from looking over her shoulder. As unexplained sounds and scents accumulate and unnerving forces seem to take hold, Alex is beginning to believe that she's not escaping her ghosts, after all. In fact, she might finally be inviting them in.

This #KindleUnlimited book includes the audio as well & I was surprised that it opens up just before Christmas. Alex escapes her hellish marriage in Albuquerque & finds solace in a small town, working with a marine biologist who studies orcas. I really enjoyed the orca facts & anecdotes included which somewhat lighten up this story that includes a lot of tragedy amongst most of the main characters. I‘d read more from Hall! #AudioColoring

This is one of those rare books where I might have liked the characters more than the plot - but the plot was good! I liked the way the author wove the story, it was a great way to put a fresh spin on an overused trope and helps invest the reader in the outcome.

#QuotsyJune18 #thread

A 'thread' quote from one of my current reads--"the branches of the cedars were draped with silver threads of mist." Beautiful. ?

"The forest here was tall and thick and dark; the branches of the cedars were draped with silver threads of mist. She stood there, breathing in the scent of the rain and trees. Just breathe. That's all she had to do. Just breathe."

#GetMovin #ghost

There's a strong element of the spirit world in these three books by Elizabeth Hall. Ghostly spirits, ghosts of the past, and usually a mix of both. I'm currently reading the tagged book, I read and loved "In the Blue Hour" and "Miramont's Ghost" is in my #TBR pile.

Cinfhen Not familiar with this author... 6y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen That's not necessarily a bad thing... 😉 I like picking lessor known books & authors sometimes. She actually has an interesting background http://www.elizabethhall.net & was married to Scott O'Dell, who wrote Island of the Blue Dolphins back in the day--a favorite YA book of mine. 6y
