Tales from Shakespeare
Tales from Shakespeare | Charles Lamb
13 posts | 7 read | 10 to read
Discover Shakespeare's best-loved plays These tales are the perfect introduction to Shakespeare's greatest plays. Charles and Mary Lamb vividly bring to life the power of Hamlet and Othello, the fun of As You Like It and the drama of Pericles. They never lose the feel of his beautiful language and humanity and convey all of his wit and wisdom. These tales are classic literature in their own right.

I'm super happy with all that I accomplished during the #20in4 readathon! I hit my target time more easily than I expected 😳 But more importantly, it gave me the push I needed to finish up a bunch of in progress reads and clear up my currently reading list a bit.
Thanks @Andrew65 for hosting such a great event!

Thank you to my very dear friend @Mitch - you are always sending goodies that arrive when a “hug” is needed most. My children and I read Tales From Shakespeare the first year we homeschooled. The card just made me smile. And the diary is just so pretty and sweet! I‘m going to think of a good way to use it. 😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mitch Just a little something .. 😘 3y

The story of the authors is fascinating. I plan to read some books on the story of their lives. Were you aware of the authors or their lives ??

This is touted as how to introduce children to Shakespeare. Do you think that‘s accurate???

This was a pretty good book that makes Shakespeares plays a little more accessible. It transforms them into prose and each one is about 15 pages long. I enjoyed reading this one.

Going through old books after painting the house. Found an early edition (1930‘s?) of Charles and Mary Lamb‘s “Tales from Shakespeare”. Front cover included list of “Books Every Child Should Own”.

My aunt got this book for me. Apparently, these tales were used for school children to introduce them to Shakespeare: " Claudius did no way resemble her late husband in qualities of his person or his mind, but was as contemptible in outward appearance as he was base and unworthy in disposition."

Chey12 Apparently the text was written in 1807. That means between that the binding must be from the copyright date of 1918! (edited) 7y

A lovely book for those who want to get the gist of Shakespeare (and/or children). Lovely prose. Good bedtime story book, although you may have to explain some words. :)

A true literary triumph! It makes me wish that the Lambs had retold Shakespeare's history plays as well. I wonder if the so-called romances should be called zombie plays since so many characters are "restored" to life. Mary Lamb's choice to open with The Tempest and close with Pericles was pure genius! ?

I remember reading a library copy of this book in middle school. Has anyone else read or re-read this as an adult? Charles and Mary Lamb are among my favorite Romantics. They introduced countless children to Shakespeare's beautiful words and songs! 📖
