In Pursuit of the Proper Sinner
In Pursuit of the Proper Sinner | Elizabeth George

Calder Moor is a wild and deadly place: many have been trapped in the myriad limestone caves, lost in collapsed copper mines, injured on perilous gritstone ridges. But this time, when two bodies are discovered in the shadow of the ancient circle of stones known as Nine Sisters Henge, it is clearly not a case for Mountain Rescue. The corpses are those of a young man and woman. Each met death in a different fashion. Each died violently. To Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley, brought in to investigate by special request, this grisly crime promises to be one of the toughest assignments of his career. For the unfortunate Nicola Maiden was the daughter of a former officer in an elite undercover unit, a man Lynley once regarded as a mentor. Now, as Lynley struggles to find out if Nicola's killer was an enemy of her father's or one she earned herself, a disgraced Barbara Havers, determined to redeem herself in the eyes of her longtime partner, crisscrosses London seeking information on the second murder victim. Yet the more dark secrets Lynley and Havers uncover, the more they learn that neither the victims nor the suspects are who they appear to be. And once again they come up against the icy realization that human relationships are often murderous...and that the blood that binds can also kill. From the Hardcover edition.

Mehso-so

I finally finished this beast! It took 2 weeks and was over 600 pages long. This one wasn‘t my favorite in this series, and very quickly took a turn into dark and lurid sexual proclivities...and stayed there. Not the best bedtime reading. Inspector Lynley was horrible, too! I‘ve never disliked him as much as I did in this one thus far. Still loving Barbara Havers, though and now Winston Nkata. 🎭🎭🎭

CarolynM I've always liked Barbara the best. I confess I've pretty much given up on this series, mostly because Tommy and his friends are just so unrelatable (and in some ways just plain odd - that tangle of relationships in the early books). I've been tempted by the latest one, though, so thank you for putting me off. 6y
EvieBee @CarolynM Nooo! You should continue. I‘ve really been enjoying these last ones barring this one. But the Havers angle keeps getting better and better! The earlier books I either loved or hated. MISSING JOSEPH and PLAYING FOR THE ASHES being the worst yet, in my opinion. 6y
RadicalReader @EvieBee your dogs are absolutely gorgeous love seeing the beautiful pets people have 6y

EvieBee @Cathythoughts So glad! I was only disappointed with the battery life but it‘s pretty decent. Everything is perfection even the screen, right? Makes highlighting so easy! 6y

It‘s about 6:30 but dinner‘s been eaten, the dishes done, and the nightly bath seen to. In my pjs reading a new book. Number 10 in the Inspector Lynley mystery series. It‘s going to be a cozy reading night after all!

EvieBee @MellieAntoinete It is SOOOO good! I started it in 2002, and would read a book every few years but decided I wanted to complete it this year. When you read them without long gaps it‘s like a continuous tapestry. So rewarding. Not your average police procedural. Keep me posted! 6y
tpixie @EvieBee I need to read at least her first one soon. She‘s going to be in a nearby town and our book club is going to her author event!! 6y

EvieBee @tpixie I envy you!! I think the first one is one of the best ones. So creepy and set in Yorkshire. Tons of Brontë references. 6y

Pickpick

It's what I expect from a Lynley/Havers mystery, although this one focused more on the mystery itself and less on the relationship between Tommy and Helen...much more to my liking.
