Agatha Christie: A Mysterious life
Agatha Christie: A Mysterious life | Laura Thompson
9 posts | 8 read | 14 to read
The author of the New York Times bestselling The Six now turns her formidable biographical skills to the greatest crime writer in the world, Agatha Christie. It has been one hundred years since Agatha Christie wrote her first novel and created the formidable Hercule Poirot. A brilliant and award winning biographer, Laura Thompson now turns her sharp eye to Agatha Christie. Arguably the greatest crime writer in the world, Christie's books still sell over four million copies each yearmore than thirty years after her deathand it shows no signs of slowing. But who was the woman behind these mystifying, yet eternally pleasing, puzzlers? Thompson reveals the Edwardian world in which Christie grew up, explores her relationships, including those with her two husbands and daughter, and investigates the many mysteries still surrounding Christie's life, most notably, her eleven-day disappearance in 1926. Agatha Christie is as mysterious as the stories she penned, and writing about her is a detection job in itself. With unprecedented access to all of Christie's letters, papers, and notebooks, as well as fresh and insightful interviews with her grandson, daughter, son-in-law and their living relations, Thompson is able to unravel not only the detailed workings of Christie's detective fiction, but the truth behind this mysterious woman.

So I mostly read eBooks, which have dull covers, so I‘m going to post what I was knitting while reading. I liked the beginning of this better - I thought it went on a little too long - but I love anything by or about Agatha Christie!!!

Stopped at my local library today and came out with all these. Actually put some back too! Reality is with all my reading commitments, work commitments etc., I‘m not sure if I will pull it off- many are new so just 3 weeks. The Christie is 500+ pages. But why not?!

In honour of Agatha Christie's September 15 birthday I am recommending a well researched and interesting biography. It was fun to read about her unusual childhood and her young adult travels.

Carol May I recommend a book that only dips slightly into her life but is a fascinating read nonetheless? 8y
Dragon Thanks @Carol I've added it to my tbr list sounds like something I would really enjoy 8y
