Sophia of Silicon Valley
Sophia of Silicon Valley | Anna Yen
13 posts | 10 read | 18 to read
Sharp, dramatic, and full of insider dish, SOPHIA OF SILICON VALLEY is one womans story of a career storming the corridors of geek power and living in the shadow of its outrageous cast of maestros. During the heady years of the tech boom, incorrigibly frank Sophia Young lucks into a job that puts her directly in the path of Scott Kraft, the eccentric CEO of Treehouse, a studio whose animated films are transforming movies forever. Overnight, Sophia becomes an unlikely nerd whisperer. Whether her success is due to dumb luck, savage assertiveness, insightful finesse (learned by dealing with her irrational Chinese immigrant mother), or a combination of all three, in her rarified position she finds she can truly shine. As Scott Krafts right-hand woman, whip-smart Sophia is in the eye of the storm, sometimes floundering, sometimes nearly losing relationships and her health, but ultimately learning what it means to take charge of her own future the way the men around her do. But when engineer/inventor Andre Stark hires her to run his companys investor relations, Sophia discovers that the big paycheck and high-status career shes created for herself may not be worth living in the toxic environment of a boys-club gone bad.

February 4, 2019 Hey all! I FINALLY finished Sophia of Silicon Valley and man was it a rollercoaster of a book. It was hard to start reading the book since i was in college but now that i have more free time i am getting the chance to finish up books that I just started and put down. I would give this book 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Let me know what you think if you like fiction books

January 14,2019 Man It has been 14 days of another year! How is everybody? I picked this book up but found it a bit hard to read because it was about Silicon Valley and the tech language is not really my strongest language. However i am picking it up again because i have taken a long break from it.

In Albuquerque for the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color and taking a break to visit the Main branch of the Albuquerque Public Library. And of course finding new titles for the TBR list. #JCLC2018 #APL #HaveBookWillTravel

silentrequiem I'm free! You're staying downtown? 1y
Chelleo @silentrequiem Yes, I‘m downtown at the Embassy. Where do you recommend for breakfast? Is 7:30 too early. 1y
silentrequiem @Chelleo Not many places are open that early. Let me do some digging... 1y
Chelleo @silentrequiem Great. My flight leaves at 10:15 but I‘m already checked in. 1y
silentrequiem @Chelleo Standard Diner opens at 8. I could also meet you for breakfast at your hotel. The airport here is tiny so you don't need much time before. 1y
Chelleo @silentrequiem I‘ll meet you at the Standard at 8. I was there the other day. No more hotel breakfast! 😝 1y
silentrequiem Lol. Okay! 1y
Avanders Ooh how fun! Bummer I can't make it today! Have a great breakfast !!! Hope I can make the next one 😘😘😘 1y
Chelleo @Avanders Sorry I‘ll miss you. Had I been more organized I would have thought to reach out before I got here! I was so busy scrambling for my conference I wasn‘t thinking about my Litsy fam! 😞 1y
Chelleo @silentrequiem Good morning! I‘m here...took much less time than I thought it would. 1y
silentrequiem @Chelleo Leaving the house now. Be there soon! 1y
Avanders @Chelleo aww I totally understand! I hope the conference was fun! (I love conferences 😁😁). I also really like Standard Diner 🍽 1y

Similar to I Don‘t Know How She Does It and The Devil Wears Prada, but with an entirely unlikeable narrator. No thanks.

Kensalikof Terrible book! 1y

3⭐️ This book was fine. The author threw every problem at the MC other than an actual flying sink at her head. All those over-dramatic problems made the book feel immature. It reminded me of those YA ones I‘d pick up in middle school. That said, if you‘re looking for something easy-to-read or a palate cleanser, this would be a decent option.

God I lived this book! Being Chinese, I totally related! Also, when I was still in uni, I too thought that I just wanted to be married and have kids to be fulfilled, but ended up doing more than I ever imagined with my career. Well, not to Sophia‘s level, but I so totally relate to all of this!
