3.5 🌟This book had some touching moments, a bit more sex than I normally like, and it left me feeling happy :)

#unpopularopinion I HATED this book. The writing was terrible and stilted, with despicable characters. Don‘t even get me started on the ridiculous plot twist with Rory. I nearly threw my iPad across the room. My first Penelope Ward and my last. I read some of the other 1⭐️ reviews on Goodreads when I finished that echoed my feelings, so I feel justified. I just wish I had bailed. I kept hoping it would get better, but it just got worse.

AceOnRoam Oh dear. Hope your next pick is better. I'm all for bailing early these days! 6y
julesG Oh, thanks for the warning, I won't bother with this one then. 6y
CoffeeK8 Yes, thanks. I‘ve read and liked others of hers, but I‘ll give this one a pass 6y

DGRachel @julesG @CoffeeK8 A lot of people loved this, especially fans of her other work, so don‘t let me dissuade you if you like her stuff. There were just a lot of things I found problematic, the Rory twist was just the tip of the iceberg. I‘ll put the other big thing in a spoiler comment, just in case you‘re interested. 6y
DGRachel The heroine works with an autistic adult three nights a week. I was ok until we met Milo, but the author‘s treatment of the character was...odd. It felt disrespectful and casually offensive. Plus, the H‘s mother had early onset dementia and that too was just kind of thrown in as a means of generating drama and not treated with care or respect. 6y
julesG I've only ever read PW's collaborations with Vi Keeland. Thought I might give this a try, but I know that I'll be annoyed by the things you mentioned in your review. 6y
CoffeeK8 @DGRachel your review was so important to me. I have spent the past 10 years working with autistic students and I‘m very sensitive to their portrayal in books. I was very interested in this book, but I was concerned. Thanks for taking the hit on this one. 6y
DGRachel @CoffeeK8 This would probably really upset you, then. I‘m glad I could spare you. 😊 6y
