A Sea Of Troubles: (Brunetti 10) | Donna Leon
9 posts | 15 read | 4 to read
The murder of two clam fishermen off the island of Pellestrina, south of the Lido on the Venetian lagoon, draws Commissario Brunetti into the close-knit community of the island, bound together by a code of loyalty and a suspicion of outsiders worthy of the Mafia. When the boss' secretary Signorina Elettra volunteers to visit the island, where she has relatives, Brunetti finds himself torn between his duty to solve the murders, concerns for Elettra's safety, and his not entirely straightforward feelings for her ...

#10 of this series. Not only is Venice very much a presence, but Pellestrina, a strip of an island off Venice is the star setting for the murders. The island‘s economy is based on fishing.Deon has the ability to make one smell the sea, & be slammed about in a turbulent storm.
What follows is an arresting and intricate plot. As Brunetti navigates with his usual internal ruminations,we come to know some of his fellow officers in a more personal way.

While not as strong for me as others in the series so far, there are so many personal thoughts and feelings from the characters in this book. Shifting perceptions culminate in a disastrous conclusion. Close-knit village, murdered fishermen, and a Brunetti who tries to get to the bottom of the silence and secrets. Quick read for me. #192025 #2001

#SeriesLove2023 Meant to read at least 1 in this series before May!🙄Brunetti is sent to the islands across from Venice, investigating a boat explosion that hides 2 murdered men.The islanders are tight lipped except to say the father was bad person, but they couldn‘t understand who would murder the son.I love Leon‘s mysteries, you always learn something about Italy! plus,Brunetti & family always take in & talk about wine & food.tenth in series.

vivastory Are you reading this series in order? I've been thinking about trying them. 10mo
Leftcoastzen @vivastory very slowly but yes ! Thoughtful & interesting .I also get the feeling theres no Bureaucracy like Italian Bureaucracy! And of course, crime. His wife is a wonderful character. 10mo
vivastory Very true about Italian bureaucracy! Monster in Florence was really revealing about the corruption there for me 10mo
Andrew65 Excellent 👏👏👏. A series I need to get back to, only read the first one. 10mo

I am surprised, that the author would make a statement such as this especially putting it into the mouth of Paola, a professor of English literature.

But I am only nitpicking, overall I enjoyed this book as usual with this series.

10th in Donna Leon‘s Guido Brunetti series. I‘m enjoying this mystery series set in Venice and this is one of my favorites so far. Signorina Elettra, secretary and hacker, volunteers to find clues to a suspected double murder while visiting her relatives. Brunetti‘s fears for her safety turn out to be well-founded. Leon builds up the suspense slowly. Her writing is conversational and enjoyable. I recommend this series for mystery fans. 4.0⭐️ #2019

I love this series. This one had me more nervous than usual, as it involves Brunetti‘s secretary/hacker/sleuth Elettra - one of my favorite characters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
