Ayodele has just turned eighteen and has decided, having now reached womanhood, that the time is right to lose her virginity. She's drawn up a shortlist: Reuben, the failsafe; Yuan, a long-admired schoolfriend; Frederick Adams, the 42-year-old, soon-to-be-pot-bellied father of her best friend. What she doesn't know is that her choice of suitor will have a drastic effect on the rest of her life. Three men. Three paths. One will send Ayodele to Europe, to university and to a very different life - but it will be a voyage strewn with heartache. Another will send her around the globe on an epic journey, transforming her beyond recognition but at the cost of an almost unbearable loss. And another will see her remain in Africa, a wife and mother caught in a polygamous marriage. Each will change her irrevocably - but which will she choose? A bit delayed, but I completed the August #ReadAroundTheWorld country of #Gambia. There seemed to be a limited selection of titles to choose from, but I mostly enjoyed this one. The book is set up kind of like Sliding Doors- revealing Ayodele‘s life in three paths based on one decision on her 18th birthday- who to sleep with. I liked the details of her different daily lives the most, but thought some differences were unrelated to her choice.

BookwormM I enjoyed this one and yes choice was limited but I am finding Luxembourg even harder to find a book 🤣🤣 4y
TorieStorieS @BookwormM I actually found one that was listed and I already have a copy on my TBR- 4y

I‘m so glad I got #Gambia for #passportLitsy or I might not have discovered this fascinating novel. Following the tradition of local hero tales, the basic scenario- a young woman‘s decision to lose her virginity and the repercussions- is played out in three separate versions. There are things that happen in all three, and things that are different, and it all makes a satisfying whole. Highly recommended. @maximoffs

I started this today for #Gambia for #LitsyPassport. There‘s an expression that keeps getting repeated that I‘m not clear of the meaning for: cat‘s on the shoulder. So here‘s my nomination for #createyourownhashtag. #catsontheshoulder #janinbooks18 @bookisglee #catsoflitsy #kal #passportLitsy @maximoffs

If I have fellow-travelers to #Gambia for #LitsyPassport challenge, this novel is on sale for $1.99 on Kindle right now. I don‘t know for how long or whether is US only or international.
