The Walking Drum | Louis L'Amour
7 posts | 10 read | 7 to read
Louis LAmour has been best known for his ability to capture the spirit and drama of the authentic American West. Now he guides his readers to an even more distant frontierthe enthralling lands of the twelfth century. Warrior, lover, and scholar, Kerbouchard is a daring seeker of knowledge and fortune bound on a journey of enormous challenge, danger, and revenge. Across Europe, over the Russian steppes, and through the Byzantine wonders of Constantinople, Kerbouchard is thrust into the treacheries, passions, violence, and dazzling wonders of a magnificent time. From castle to slave galley, from sword-racked battlefields to a princesss secret chamber, and ultimately, to the impregnable fortress of the Valley of Assassins, The Walking Drum is a powerful adventure in an ancient world that you will find every bit as riveting as Louis LAmours stories of the American West. Who shall deny the excitement of entering a strange city for the first time? Or going ashore in a strange port?
. . .
Evil comes often to a man with money; tyranny comes surely to him without it.

Listening to an audiobook while threading the heddles. I've never used a loom like this before, but so far so good! This book is a great guide!

julesG What are you making? 2y
ellie_ember According to the book I'm using, I'm making a sample (?) Which seems to mean I'm making a bit of fabric for the sole purpose of learning how to make fabric 🙃😅 I'm planning on using this as a tea towel though. I think it would be fun to make Hogwarts House colored tea towels in upcoming projects! 2y

Omg one of my FAVE books ever is on sale as an ebook. I think it‘s the only non-western L‘Amour ever wrote and I always wished he‘d written more like this. I have two copies but I‘m going to have to buy the ebook too. One can‘t have too many copies of a favorite!!!

Should work for #readingasia2021 as well, another excuse to reread it.

Librarybelle Thanks for posting! Great recommendation! 3y

1. No
2. Tagged. LL wrote so many westerns! Why oh why didn‘t he write a sequel to this brilliant book?
3. Yes; print. I used to work for newspapers and a magazine so I‘m old-school.
4. Yeah
5. Yes, as many as I can

Hello!

If you thought L‘amour only wrote westerns, think again...this is a top ten book: a glorious adventure set during the Golden Age of Islam, very similar to my fave book of all time, The Black Rose by Thomas Costain. Saw this copy at HPB in beautiful condition and snapped it up, like I do when I see copies of The Black Rose. Probably never to be reprinted, so absolutely buy it when you see it. If only he‘d written a sequel. It‘s glorious. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
