Someone to Wed | Mary Balogh
10 posts | 23 read | 2 to read
A very practical marriage makes Alexander Westcott question his heart in the latest Regency romance from the New York Times bestselling author of Someone to Hold. When Alexander Westcott becomes the new Earl of Riverdale, he inherits a title he never wanted and a failing country estate he cant afford. But he fully intends to do everything in his power to undo years of neglect and give the people who depend on him a better life. . . . A recluse for more than twenty years, Wren Heyden wants one thing out of life: marriage. With her vast fortune, she sets her sights on buying a husband. But when she makes the desperateand oh-so-dashingearl a startlingly unexpected proposal, Alex will only agree to a proper courtship, hoping for at least friendship and respect to develop between them. He is totally unprepared for the desire that overwhelms him when Wren finally lifts the veils that hide the secrets of her past. . . .

I finished this yesterday. I usually buy a bunch of Mary Balogh books at a time, because her writing usually never fails. I have the first audio to this Westcott series and I hated it. Just absolutely awful. And then I was trying to listen to all the audible books (May Read the Shelf Challenge!) And this one was sweet and careful and so much character growth! You didn't need the first, though now I'm listening to book two. Seems book 1 was a fluke

This is my second book in this series (because I skipped book 2 to get to a character I cared more about). But I really like Balogh‘s writing and these books are quick and easy and fun historical romances.

Generally like Balogh, but this was definitely one of her better efforts. Wren and Alex were both strong and likable characters and their story had #allthefeels #romance

So I couldn‘t resist this historical #romantsy , there were cute decorations, people in Through the Looking Glass costumes and 10percent off books. 👍😀🎉

Balogh is a hit or miss author for me. I always admire her writing but she doesn‘t always hit me in the feels. Her newest is definitely a hit. Deeply emotional and lovely.
