pickShe has a little too much faith in the good of certain religious practices such as giving a child a “what would Jesus do” necklace or bracelet to help them be good. This is overly simplistic and has not been proven to make any child (neurotypical or neurospicy) “be good.”
GingerAntics A lot of neurospicy folks have been really damaged by religion in a way she was lucky to not experience, but she also doesn‘t acknowledge the history of abuse toward people like her that continues today. 8mo
GingerAntics However, this is a wonderful look at one of the first autistic kids kept at home. She acknowledges that most kids like her during her childhood were locked away. She admits that she worries about ASD kids being automatically sent to special ed instead actually educated, which is a concern I share. 8mo
GingerAntics She even mentions at one point that her mother wrote a book as well. I went and looked it up. I am intrigued to take that for a spin. It would be so interesting to hear about the same events from the outside. 8mo
GingerAntics I loved her discussion of the scientific fact that if the genetic components of neurodivergence were “edited out” (a eugenics idea that is greatly supported by autism speaks), we would also edit out all of human creativity, ingenuity, and invention. It certainly makes sense that in a country with a school system designed to create factory worker yes-men, this would be an appealing idea. 8mo
GingerAntics Too bad that means we would most certainly “edit out” all the people who actually want it edited out.
