Great Expectations: The Sons and Daughters of Charles Dickens | Robert Gottlieb
2 posts | 3 read
Opening a unique window to Victorian England, this study of the author as a father highlights the strange and surprising stories of each of Dickens's ten children, from Kate, who became a successful artist, to Frank, who died after serving in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

I find this book truly fascinating for all I know very little about Dickens himself or any of the famous folk mentioned. The most interesting part to me is that if not for their father it‘s unlikely we‘d even remember most of their names. All, but two really, went on to live almost astoundingly ordinary lives considering the circumstances of their childhood with all the faults, sorrows, and successes as any well born person could expect.
