I love the idea behind this #giveaway by@RachelO about short reading #inbetween longer books. I‘m a long-form enthusiast and rarely read short stuff beyond news articles, with the occasional academic journal or essay collection. I‘m looking forward to Alexander Chee‘s essay collection which just came out, HOW TO WRITE AN AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL NOVEL.

I would love IMAGINARY CITIES. Thank you for coordinating this, @RachelO !

rockpools Thanks for entering! I didn't know Chee had an essay collection coming out 😀 6y

Darran Anderson's (Twitter:@oniropolis) epic of creative nonfiction is bursting with #impossible cities (airships, underwater, cities that walk away). Planners, designers, novelists, comic creators, artists and idealists are all included. It's a sprawling, frustrating, inspiring book.

I think it started life as essays: http://www.3ammagazine.com/3am/impossible-cities/

And the publishers Influx are a small awesome indie.

@Cinfhen #lyricalapril

Cinfhen Wait? Nonfiction?!? How??? I'm amazed and slightly confused 😳 7y
rockpools @Cinfhen He's dug out examples of imaginary cities and genius unbuilt ideas from all over the place! It's a bit bonkers but very cool. Also a complete internet rabbit-hole - there are no pics, so you need to google to see wtf he's talking about... 7y
Cinfhen Sounds unbelievable! Your pics above are so cool 😎 7y
batsy I really want to read this at some point! His twitter feed is amazing. 7y
rockpools @batsy It's quite hard work (!), but it's definitely worth it! 7y

Pickpick

For the start of #24in48, I'm finishing some half-read books. This is a vast, sprawling, epic piece of non-fiction. Cities in comics, plans, art, dreams... utopias, dystopias, unbuilt, ruins, myths, the afterlife. So many quotes, so many glimpses or comments in the footnotes that take you off at a tangent. Had trouble finding my way out the other side!

ReadingEnvy Sounds great! 8y
rockpools @ReadingEnvy It is! Structure's quite...loose? You don't always know where you're going, but you'll discover some fabulous things/places on the way! And it did serious damage to my TBR! 8y
