Atlanta is one of America's most dynamic and fastest-growing cities, with an increasingly diverse population. This volume honors the city's transformation--albeit in a chilling manner--with a highly talented crew of contributors who know the city inside and out. Featuring brand-new stories by: Tananarive Due, Kenji Jasper, Tayari Jones, Dallas Hudgens, Jim Grimsley, Brandon Massey, Jennifer Harlow, Sheri Joseph, Alesia Parker, Gillian Royes, Anthony Grooms, John Holman, Daniel Black, and David James Poissant. Tayari Jones was born and raised in southwest Atlanta. A graduate of Spelman College, she is the author of three novels, including Silver Sparrow, an NEA Big Read selection. She is on the MFA faculty at Rutgers-Newark University.

I‘m officially on vacation. Murder Elf and I are heading down to Atlanta tomorrow. I‘ll be spending 3 days in Athens attending the annual Cracker/CVB Camp In music event at the 40 Watt, then doing touristy stuff in Atlanta. Any bookish places worth a visit?

SW-T @Guildedearlobe A Cappella Books on Haralson is nice, especially since you like music. (edited) 5y
Guildedearlobe @SW-T Cool. That sounds awesome and it‘s not too far from where I‘m staying. (edited) 5y
Jinjer This post is from 2 years ago. Did we ever get the run down on the music event and visiting of bookish places? And what is a Murder Elf? LOL 4y

DGRachel I love Atlanta! 5y
Mitch @DGRachel it‘s on the bucket list! 5y
DGRachel I wouldn‘t want to live there as traffic is an absolute nightmare, and I get lost every time I go, but I‘ve visited several times and always enjoyed my stay. 😊 5y

mutlee I live in Atlanta, so I needed this! 5y
Oryx Sounds good! I've been once before during my PhD for a conference. Unfortunately no bookish things, but we did go the Martin Luther King house. And I love southern food (even managed to get some fried green tomatoes). 5y
Mitch @mutlee enjoy 5y
Mitch @Oryx I fancy some fried chicken now! 5y

#LibraryThing

Fun story collection! Some of these were new writers to me and, overall,I enjoyed the collection. My favorites were those which were both creepy-warped and funny-warped. The Prisoner, Kill Joy, and The Bubble. Also loved the sense of place invoked by all of the pieces. Each story was associated with an ATL neighborhood and mapped out!

Notafraidofwords Tayari is the editor? I love her ! 7y

Just got my LibraryThing ARC of Atlanta Noir. I love how each story takes place in a different neighborhood/part of town. Can't wait to dive in. Edited by Tayari Jones 💕

mklong If you are in or around Atlanta, several of the contributing writers will be reading and signing at the Wrecking Bar Brewpub in Little Five on August 1 7y
Well-ReadNeck @mklong I am! Hoping to go to the release at A Capella Books that night. Fangirling on Jones!!! 7y
Well-ReadNeck @mklong Looks like they may be one in the same event. Which, of course, makes sense. A Capella events are usually (always?) off-campus. Thanks for the heads-up! (edited) 7y
mklong Sure! And yes, I think it's the same event, the bar is right around the corner from the store. Maybe I'll see you there 😀 7y

Haha, I've read a few of these noir short story collections, but the combination of "Atlanta" and "noir" makes me laugh a little. #myjunebookmail
