I first read this years ago when it came out. I loved it then and I still love it now. It‘s a play on words with a kid asking what is a human race. Is it really a race? I love the sing song pattern and the rhyme, but only now in my second reading do I realize it needs more variety in the illustrations on the people represented as it is talking about the HUMAN race.

pickRead this to the 4th grade class I taught yesterday (my first Jamie Lee Curtis children's book) & they absolutely loved it. The illustrations are delightful & so jam packed full of details, the kids asked me to leave the book out for them to explore when they have free time.
In particular, we enjoyed the rhymes & word play. "It's very clever," said one student who I've known since he was six & hated reading & books.☺️

#kostovagiveawy. I find it hard to narrow down who I would love to meet. I got it down to two. R L Stein is known for children's horror stories, but he can also do comedy. His books kept me alive when I was younger. Jamie Lee Curtis may be a "scream queen" but she has a light hearted and effervescent quality when she write for children. Weigh she is feeling silly, or explaining the human race her books are lovely and something to pass on.
