My goal for the year is to read 50 books from my physical shelves. In the first month I‘ve read 11, for a total of 20 books read this month! The only reason I‘m thankful to live in Michigan is for #snowdays #teacher #booklove #bookpurge Now, into some non-fic!
pickAt the end of his life Henry is reflecting on his time being a neuro surgeon. He felt anxieties talking honestly to patients and doing big surgeries. He knew he had the lives of people in his hands and he was ready to retire. I found it interesting that they were getting in “trouble” for treating too many patients in the ER ($$). His renos to his cottage were his way to decompress and relax. If you‘re into medical stories this one is for you!

I am really looking forward to Admissions as I loved Do No Harm. It is always good to have more Jeeves and Wooster on one's kindle. I thought of getting the P.D James from the library, but then I somehow clicked buy... The Simon Schama is a random one, but I do tend to like his books.
pickI loved Henry Marsh‘s first memoir Do No Harm. This second book of his includes ruminations on retirement, dying, and the modern healthcare legal-medico curffuffle. He‘s a wonderfully self-aware and skillful writer! Please read!
pickAnother great book by Henry Marsh. This one focuses more on finding meaning in one's life after retirement and looking back on one's career. Recommended, but definitely read Do No Harm first 😄

I am extremely squeamish about medical procedures (I feel faint just listening to my friend talk about her adventures donating blood), so reading books by Marsh and others is a way for me to try to face my fears.

This man actually saved my life about 29 years ago 😊 to say I am forever grateful is an understatement. A fantastic honest writer too, if you like to go behind the scenes of the medical profession Marsh is your man!
