#AnglophileApril Day 27: #NeverGoingToGiveYouUp reminded me of this picturebook in verse which speaks of a father‘s love – the ageless narrative of life, love, and loss. When the son was taken as captive – poetry provides the music of lamentation – the dirge in the night that cries out in pain – the wailing of one‘s soul distilled in clean lines and luminous artwork. This CSK award is a poetry picture book. It tells an African folktale about a blacksmiths son who is captured and sold into slavery. The boys mother died in childbirth and he raised his son with the help of the four elements- earth, fire, wind, and water. On the last page it says this quote: "Kings may come and go, but the family endures forever." The authors note at the back explains how the author wrote the book. #ucflae3414f17
