Mehso-so

I started this craving more historical romance and that‘s exactly what I got, expect sort of bland. Raphe is a dock worker and a bare knuckle boxer who learns he‘s a duke some how and Gabriella is a lady with a scandalous family who can‘t love a scandalous man too. It‘s okay, just average on what I usually read, I probably won‘t remember the characters in 15 minutes and there was no steam. It was okay, if somewhat over done and almost boring.

It is #awholenewworld when you go from dockworker to duke. Raphe and his sisters need help preparing for the ton. Because she understands what it is to not fit in Gabriella steps in. Due to her sister's scandalous marriage her parents are determined she marry well regardless of her feelings so she shouldn't be thinking about Raphe so much. A very sweet #romantsy loaded with chemistry and characters who actually talk to each other. #jubilantjuly

What a sweet, very sensible romance with a little bit of gender-flipped Pygmalion in the mix. It turns out you can have a story even if characters sit down and have intelligent conversations about past difficulties or character flaws without resorting to possessiveness, blackmail, kidnapping, or trapping anyone into marriage. I was delighted to see it looks like the next hero will be Coventry, (good since I found his character quite interesting).

A most unlikely Duke, to be sure. Compelling, powerful but heartwarming, as well as, incredibly entertaining. I enjoyed Raphe and Gabrella work together to overcome life's circumstances and the impending scandal. From bare-knuckle boxing to Duke, due to incredible circumstances. He was an eight year old lad respondible for two younger sisters. Fast forward fifteen years later...
What a great read! Regency Romance at its best!
