At Home in the World: Reflections on Belonging While Wandering the Globe
At Home in the World: Reflections on Belonging While Wandering the Globe | Tsh Oxenreider
As Tsh Oxenreider, author of Notes From a Blue Bike, chronicles her family s adventure around the world seeing, smelling, and tasting the widely varying cultures along the way she discovers what it truly means to be at home. In her late thirties and as a mom to three kids under age ten, Tsh Oxenreider and her husband decided to spend a rather ordinary nine months in an extraordinary way: traveling the corners of the earth to see, together, the places they ve always wanted to explore. This book chronicles their global journey from China to Thailand to Australia, Sri Lanka, Uganda, France, Croatia, and beyond, as they fill their days with train schedules, world-schooling the kids, and working from anywhere. Told with wit and candor, Oxenreider invites us on a worldwide adventurewithout the cost of a ticket; to discover people, places, and stories worth knowing about; to find peace in the places we call home; and to learn that, as the Thai say, in the end, we are all same same but different. An interesting read about a family who pack up and travel the world. Didn‘t really go in to a lot of details about the logistics of working and learning while on the move. But a nice overall summary.

I‘d have liked more... I felt like Oxenreider just scratched the surface in most areas and I would have liked more depth. That withstanding, this is a lovely reflection on home, travel and what matters.

book 3 for #15books15weeks. Yikes. I better pick up the pace!

This is not my favorite travel memoir, but in the middle of my husband‘s busy-season at work, this passage is really resonating with my mom heart. 🧡

It‘s your basic blogger memoir. Nothing deep or illuminating about traveling the world. I‘d love to travel the world with my kids, so I enjoyed it.

Day 8 #ReadingResolutions photo challenge! The prompt for today was #TravelTuesday. I love this book! It is a travel memoir. Tsh and her husband took their 3 kids (under age 10) on a 9 month trip around the world and in this book she shares their experiences. It is sooooo good. Some parts had me cracking up too! And isn‘t the cover pretty!!!

I love travel memoirs. For a variety of reasons, I am not able to travel often, so I make do with armchair excursions. This was a very good selection. Oxenreider and her family are adventurous and conscientious travelers, and I felt as if I was right there with them for their journey. And what a journey it was. I'm not sure I'd have had the desire to take my 3 littles along on a trip such as this, but they seem to make it work. Recommended.

LauraBeth I haven‘t listened to it in a while, but I enjoy her podcast. (edited) 6y
Traci1 @LauraBeth I had never heard of her before I saw the book. She seems to lead a very interesting life. 6y

Tsh Oxenreider and her husband and 3 kids spent a year traveling around the world together, and this is their story. I listened to it on audio and while it was fine, I think I‘d have enjoyed the paper copy more. I really enjoyed reading about the different countries they visited and how their kids enjoyed each one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I picked this one to read on our fifteen hour car ride home from Washington, DC. Our vacation is on a much smaller scale than Oxenreider's family's nine month trip around the world but I'm still feeling a kinship with her.

This book is definitely not my genre, so it was a little tough for me. I did find her writing enjoyable and some of the stories cute, but travel memoirs are just not my thing.

This is a sweet, thoughtful memoir of a family's around-the-world travels. If you're fond of Tsh from blogs or podcasts, you will almost certainly love this, and I figure even those who have never heard of her would have a good chance of finding it very readable and delightful.

I really enjoyed this family travel memoir of a year spent traipsing the globe as a couple with three kids under ten in tow. It's 40% about the countries, 60% about family and friends and sense of place and community.

Librarylady I like Tsh Oxenreider's podcast as well. I have this book on my TBR right now. 7y
kiminreverse @librarylady i'm a big podcast fan but haven't listened to hers. I'll have to check it out. 7y

"The act of travel, the constant moving and shuffling of our bodies and backpacks, our dotted lines across the map, the simplicity of owning less to see more-these small acts are weaving our family's tapestry."
