Yes, Virginia: There Is a Santa Claus
Yes, Virginia: There Is a Santa Claus | Chris Plehal
7 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
In 1897, eight-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon wrote the New York Sun to ask a simple question: Is there a Santa Claus? The editor's response was a stirring defense of hope, generosity, and the spirit of childhood. His essay has been reprinted countless times since, and the phrase "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" has become part of American Christmas lore.Based on these actual events, Yes, Virginia is the story of a little girl who taught a city to believe.

This was my first time reading this story. It's cute, but being based on a true story from the 1890s, the language felt a little formal for today's children. The artwork was fine, but nothing special and the plot was very straightforward. It lacked Christmas magic.

Little Virginia wanted to believe in Santa Claus, even when everyone was saying he wasn‘t real. So she wrote a letter to her newspaper to see if it was so, and the response she received fills me with joy every time I read it.

Based on the true story, children are sure to love this adaptation with the real letter and response included. Such bright illustrations as well!

Getting in the spirit as we just finished decorating our own tree!

Oh my goodness, this is too much!!! Thank you Ginny!!!! I realize the box said 'Don't Open'...but to be fair I didn't open the presents themselves. Also, you're handwriting is exactly the same as my mom's so I was like "Wow, mom!" Haha! Im speechless at the amount of generosity shown here!! But too be honest, I'm more of a Bears fan than a Colts fan!

IndyHannaJones Ok I was a bad girl and I opened one haha even though I splurged and got 'A Conspiracy of Ravens' for myself in still supper touched by it!! I'll hold onto the extra copy and force one of my friends to start reading the series! 7y
