The historical research for this novel was impressive. Eleanor Roosevelt was a private woman, but the author found personal letters that adds important information about her personal life, family and marriage. She's an amazing woman & loved reading about her life. Definitely discovered surprising details.

I just used three hard earned credits on these audiobooks: Parade's End, Eleanor Roosevelt: 1884-1933 Volume One, and Victoria: The Queen. Feeling like biographies and a loooong classic. Anyone read any of these? Also, my husband wondered if all readers are equally finicky about audible books...it took me 2 hours to decide what to order off my wishlist. I have to listen to samples and ensure it's "credit-worthy." ? #audible #bookhaul #audiobooks

BookishFeminist Yep, normal! It's not just a book you're picking out. A narrator totally makes or breaks what might otherwise be a great book, or a mediocre one made much better! I hoard credits too. But I do love Audible's easy flexible return policy. I often buy right away and return if it's not my thing since the credit goes back in my account immediately 7y

EvieBee @BookishFeminist I loooove that policy so much because narrators can just ruin it...sadly the case when some authors choose to narrate their own books. I had to recently return Mermaid and check it out from the library instead. Gotta love Audible!

BookishFeminist @EvieBee84 Oh that sounds good!! I'll pass on the audible now. I recently tried the author-narrated bolt Chronicle of a Last Summer and it was awful but I enjoyed it in print. Some authors are great narrators, thankfully! I really love Mohsin Hamid & Neil Gaiman for that. 7y

DGRachel I second what everyone else has already said. I spend a lot of time listening to samples. I hate returning audiobooks, but I have had to return a couple that were just SO bad. 7y

EvieBee @DGRachel Yes, and the reviews are so helpful too! I nearly bought a serious book about concentration camps but many reviews stated that the narrstor's awful German accent when quoting characters was so funny it took away from the seriousness of the book.

GlitteryOtters I go back and forth between researching heavily & buying titles on a whim just because it sounded interesting. 😂 is say 75% of the time I am cashing in a credit I really research heavily. 7y

Donna_sBookMinute I'm Absolutely finicky and very frugal with my Audible credits. In fact, if the members' price of a book is lower than --say -- 10-$12, I'll pay that just to save my credits to use on higher-priced books. I also pay close attention to reviews (not only on Audible). Finally, if I determine I don't necessarily have to own a copy, I'll check it out from Hoopla or Overdrive. Yeah, I'm a beast on Audible. 7y

EvieBee @Donna_sBookMinute I do the same thing! It has to be over $24 and over 14 hours for me to feel it's worth a credit. Probably explains why most of my audible books are enormous tomes! 7y
