Lady of the Lake
Lady of the Lake | Andrzej Sapkowski
The Witcher returns in this action-packed sequel to The Tower of Swallows, in the New York Times bestselling series that inspired The Witcher video games. After walking through the portal in the Tower of Swallows while narrowly escaping death, Ciri finds herself in a completely different world... an Elven world. She is trapped with no way out. Time does not seem to exist and there are no obvious borders or portals to cross back into her home world. But this is Ciri, the child of prophecy, and she will not be defeated. She knows she must escape to finally rejoin the Witcher, Geralt, and his companions - and also to try to conquer her worst nightmare. Leo Bonhart, the man who chased, wounded and tortured Ciri, is still on her trail. And the world is still at war. Even by Sapkowski's standards, this book is hella confusing. It has multiple frame narratives, shifts in perspective, and covers a wide range of characters and events. Sapkowski loves to run the plot beyond the most satisfying, cathartic moment. Still, it's impossible not to love Geralt, Ciri, and Yennifer.

That was absolutely the worst book of the series. It was all over the place, where narration and plot it concerned. It was disgusting and disturbing throughout. I‘ve come to the conclusion that this author is a misogynist a-hole. The ending fizzled out ridiculously, like reading that whole series was a waste of time. Very unhappy.

The ending had me tear up a bit but overall it was alright. It‘s mostly politics and the story of the war, so it isn‘t very geralt or Ciri heavy. But like I said, overall not bad.

The ending of the main storyline, it‘s great but has serious flaws. Consisting of 3 timelines, its a slog most of the time. Heavy in the Arthurian legend, this might be your jam, but not knowing it really well, I probably missed a lot. The clash we‘ve been waiting for occurs, but it‘s only 120ish (albeit great) pages of 530+ total. A reveal already spoiled in the show, is lacklustre here. The ending? Corny. I was hoping for more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I tend to start series and never finish them (or forget to). 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️So my current, immediate TBR are the series I‘ve yet to finish. Photo doesn‘t include the Bring Down Heaven (Sam Sykes) trilogy, and The Broken Earth (N.K. Jemisin) trilogy on audible! I‘ll be working on those as the credits come in!

Tagged book is what I‘m starting with!

I raced through this one! An incredibly bittersweet ending to the series, though not without its beauty. It‘s open enough, too, that Sapkowski could return to it, but I honestly prefer this to be the ending. I still have one more book to go, the last prequel book, but I‘m glad to have spent the past few months deep in this world.

Sapkowski introduces a wild framing device: figures from Arthurian legend try to reconstruct the legend of Geralt. Apparently, when Ciri passed through the Tower of the Swallow at the end of the last book, she entered the world of King Arthur. This elaborate framing sets up the story of Geralt & co--still looking for Ciri--on a detour in Toussaint.

I've figured out what works in this series for me, or rather what doesn't. Ciri. I love the exploits of Geralt and Dandelion and Yennefer, but a little bit of Ciri goes a long way. I'm glad I read the entire series, and I plan to read the prequel (which I assume has no Ciri. Huzzah!). As a side note, I'm about halfway through season 2 of the show and really enjoying it. Show Ciri is much more tolerable than book Ciri.

This brings everything to an end, whether well developed or not, and gives readers information that hasn't been revealed before. But I almost gave up half way. The majority of this tale is politics, backdoor deals and developing characters from past books that don't even influence the main characters journey. I expected more out of the last book.

This was both a frustrating & exciting read. I found the stuff with the elves a bit dull & in truth, very creepy, when you consider how old she is. The near misses with Ciri's time hopping was really tedious & I got impatient for her to just find them. Once they were all back on the same plane the story got really exciting & unputdownable. Overall it is a good book & I think my personal impatience was the biggest issue rather than the book itself.

Finished the mainline Witcher book series last night (only Season of Storms to go!). And you know how Tolkien set the fantasy standard? You know how he let (most) of his characters live? Why is that the quality following fantasy writers left behind? Why do authors have to kill their characters? Let! Them! Live!

I gave this one a so-so though for other choices Sapkowski made. Perhaps on a reread I would appreciate it more.

Graywacke Sorry. (Although a while ago now). Also it‘s not so easy to match up to Tolkien‘s prose, whatever the genre. 3y

Finally found time to finish the final novel of the WITCHER and i absolutely loved it. It tied up a heap of story lines of the previous books and gave a non-stereotypical-yet-satisfying conclusion to the saga. And with all those plot twists there was no anticipating how it would end. I really loved the contemporary spirit of this high-fantasy series and am dreading that there‘s only the prequel left for me now. And the games...

Andrzej Sapkowski's writing grips you and transports you to the world of witchers, sorceresses and monsters. The conclusion to the witcher saga, though ambiguous leaves you content. I really enjoyed his writing and the way he has described the continent, it makes you feel as though you are there with the characters and fighting the battles against evil.

This is the end of the story of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer (even though there is one more book). Some boring stuff about military battles and politics, but the story of the 3 main characters is worth the read. Bittersweet ending. https://cannonballread.com/2020/03/the-lady-of-the-lake-a-novel-of-the-witcher-e...

I‘m really sick of these e-book publishers. I have a book I borrowed from Libby and I‘m not enjoying it as much as I thought and I‘m annoyed because I feel like I can‘t return it without my library getting the $4 penalty for me not finishing it. The point of a library is to try new genres and books not be punished.

Man, this ending destroyed me. 😢 It had been spoiled for me several times, but I realize that all those people actually misunderstood the ending. To an absurd degree. So on the plus side, the ending actually wasn‘t spoiled (although many events were expected, a few important and glaring details were ignored by others in their interpretations of the finale). I‘ll post a review for the series after i finish the prequel.

Just few pages in (finished the first chapter) and this thing has delivered an AWESOME right-turn-Clyde! This is gonna be nerdgasmic!

It ended. And I am sad.

This one has everything. Great, raging battles, riveting final showdowns, one last, unexpected revelation about Ciri‘s bloodline... sex, violence, magic, love, the ravages of war... But mostly we have stories within stories. What is true, and what is made up? As Ciri, Sapkowski seemlessly slips between worlds, leaving the reader with a bit of buzzing in the head, occasionally stumped, but always enchanted. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Branwen I adore this series! 📚💕 5y
