Mehso-so

This book was a quick read with Mark Twain's pleasant prose. It reminded me of the Screwtape Letters. It takes place in 1590 Austria. Three boys are befriended by Satan. There are adventures and much about the fear of witches that was rampant at that time. Twain addresses human nature, the nature of war, the nature of right and wrong. I found it left me feeling a bit sad and thoughtful.

OSChamberlain I have a 24 vol. set of his complete works and this one is vol. 8. I need to get on it too! 7y
britt_brooke @OSChamberlain I'm envious of your collection! I need to read more Twain in general. 😬 7y
OSChamberlain @britt_brooke I'm right there with you. I've only ever read the Prince and the Pauper, and loved it so much I was on ebay when I saw the collection and jumped on it! 7y

Pickpick

At the Mark Twain museum, younger son and I were gazing at this book signed by his daughter. One of her favorites ?? Son then said he had a copy (inset) at home and I could read it. So I did. This novella is somewhat mind-bending in a "whoa!" way and we had a good discussion afterwards on the topics of religion, existence of God, Satan, and general idea of fate. This was written during Twain's dark period and published posthumously.

Ubookquitous I live right near the Twain House! 7y
ValerieAndBooks @Ubookquitous cool! My daughter attends university of Hartford (The Hartt School) 😊 7y
Ubookquitous Nice - perhaps sometime when you come to Hartford we can meet :-) 7y
ValerieAndBooks @Ubookquitous 😊that'd be nice! BTW, any bookstores in the area? I haven't come across any yet. 7y

Latest kindle purchases - all discounted deals except Britt-Marie. I blame Amazon for recommending the Marilyn Manson one as something I might like. Because, sold (even though the cover creeps me out)! #latestbookishbuys #kindleedition #photoadaynov16 #tbr

britt_brooke @mischa Good to know! I've always thought he was interesting. Looking forward to reading it. 👍🏻 8y
mischa @britt_brooke he's very unexpected. I probably wouldn't have picked it up if it hadn't been for the interview I saw of him in one of Michael Moore's docos. Up until that point I'd only ever been into his music. 8y
britt_brooke @mischa Putting it in my TBR shortlist! 8y
Lizpixie I love his memoir, he's very interesting. Nothing at all like his stage persona. 8y
TheNextBook @mischa @britt_brooke can you tag it for me? 8y
