I would use this in my classroom to show all of the different sea animals and the children would also like it because of the way the characters are drawn.

This is a good book for kids because the colorful illustrations help keep the child's interest and also helps guide the students through the book. The pictures are accurate and follow along well with the text.

A House for Hermit Crab written and illustrated by Eric Carle is a F picture book. I think it would be really fun to use this book for an RT so that the students can all be the different sea creatures that the hermit crab meets along the way while trying to decorate his new home! https://amyramell.wikispaces.com/Readers+Theater Using the UDL principle 2.5 would be perfect for this book especially if using RT!

Gabylaurel10 Along with 2.1 would be good with teaching vocabulary and using thematic learning when teaching the names of the sea creatures. It goes in hand with EL strategy 5 of teaching technical vocabulary that supports key concepts! #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
DrSpalding Readers theater is a fabulous choice. EL number two would work well with that strategy too! 6y
Erothert I remember this book! RT for this would be so fun!! Good choice 6y
Kaelya This is such a great book to read aloud to kids especially in Florida or even when learning about Florida or the water in social science! 6y
Gabylaurel10 @Kaelya I didn‘t even think that this book would be good to incorporate science and to teach about Florida marine life! Thank you for the tip! 6y

Laura Ingalls Wilder award winning author Eric Carle wrote the cute F story A House For Hermit Crab. Hermit Crab had outgrown his shell and is not on the search for a new home. When he finds a new home he will fit in he is disappointed because the shell looks plain. He goes on a journey to decorate his home until he outgrows it again. This adorable story would be a great read aloud that could be used in different subject areas. #ucflae3414f17

KayleeC http://twigglemagazine.com/June-activities/hermit-crab-book-activity.html This book could support ESOL strategy 23 structure advance organizers consisting for new terminology that learners will encounter in the new lesson vocabulary to be reviewed and UDL principle 2.5 Illustrate through multiple media. 6y
SarahWynne How cute would it be to make a hermit crab a class pet when introducing this book?! Eric Carle illustrations are always the best. I‘ll be reading this one for sure! 6y
MakennaK I loved this book as a child! You could bring in hermit crabs as a class pet and have the kids take care of them or make him different shells! 6y
DrSpalding Excellent post. This would make for a very nice storytelling too! 6y

A hermit crab is on the hunt for a new home in this excellent F picture book. This story can be used to teach about ocean life but also takes you through each month of the year, so there are lots of subject areas that can be covered throughout the book! It would also be an excellent option for storytelling: https://goo.gl/ezU8bo #UCFLAE3414SU17

DrSpalding I agree! A student has performed this one in the past! I think there is a picture on the wiki page I sent today! 7y
DrSpalding ❤️ Etsy but you could try to make your own with the stiff felt at Hobby Lobby or another craft store!🙂 7y
Elizabethhunt96 This looks very cute! I love the illustrations and the activities you can do with it. 7y

I read this to my students and while they were working on an activity, I drew hermit crab. I think it looks pretty good right?! 🤓
