I think it‘s kind of funny that my shortest book and longest book were both about dragons. 😂

I love The Wind in the Willows & this has much of the same spirit in a shorter book. Wise, goofy animals with a philosophical bent who, for the most part, just want to be left alone to ponder the world. A cute satire on the chivalric romance & upending expectations about bravery, adventure, & perhaps crucially, violence and what we deem entertainment. This is cute in the best way; far from twee or cloying. #ChildrensClassicRead2020 @TheBookHippie
Such a charming story. I read it to my fifth grade class and stressed St. George's admonishment to the villagers about wanting a fight and lying in order to get it. Fifth grade is a year of drama. And thumbs up for the illustrations in this edition. #ChildrensClassicRead2020 @TheBookHippie
A mostly charming fairytale for all ages, one which is probably best read with children, rather than by children on their own, so that adults might have conversations about a couple instances of problematic language and also the issue of fighting as entertainment. The classic illustrations by Ernest H Shepard are adorable. #childrensclassicread2020
What the Boy chiefly dabbled in was natural history and fairytales, and he just took them as they came, in a sandwichy sort of way, without making any distinctions; and really his course of reading strikes one as rather sensible.

On general principle, I don‘t approve of marking up library books. However, I applaud the crossing-out of a hurtful stereotype, as seen above. I hope it will spark discussion between adults and children about why these words have been targeted.

Started with my book for #childrensclassicread2020
Happy reading week everyone 💐😊
Interesting little story of a poet dragon. The dragon is a bit of a dramatic personality as well. It‘s a fun little story. Some of the vocabulary makes me question who these children are who would understand some of these words, but overall worth the read. It seemed to be over just as it was beginning.

course they do. What other sounds does one suppose a dragon makes?

I read this in one setting!!! Ha. However I‘m going to take it with me all month and read it to as many classrooms as possible💜📖
What a beautiful little story! Poetry, dragon, friendship, faith, goodness ...the perfect tale.
What a cute little fairy tale this is! I‘m surprised I‘d never heard of it before. I quite like the idea of a poetic dragon. 😁 #childrensclassicread2020 #classicschallenge2020
@TheBookHippie I think I have the wrong version. It says 'abridged' on the copyright page. The illustrations are gorgeous. I went ahead and bought the $.99 Kindle so no big deal.
Looking forward to this February read 🐉

“...my wants are few, and at any rate I had peace and quietness and wasn't always being asked to come along and do something. And I've got such an active mind - always occupied, I assure you!”
This modern fantasy book contains thick ground story of where a relationship is established. It pays close attention to detail and lets the imagination of kids be explored through this book. Its a literary fairy tale that is full of playfulness with both the story, and characters!
This story gives a fascinating story about a dragon and a boy who becomes friends. However, the town soon finds out and tries to get rid of him. It's a cute story that helps kids discover and critically think of problem solving while still getting a kick out of what they're reading!
Now I know how the actual story went...I remember watching the movie a bunch as a kid, but never knew it was a book until just recently 🐉👦🏻📚
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I kept finding more dragon titles! Clockwise: the Harper Hall trilogy (from my TBR), The Reluctant Dragon (a childhood favorite), and of course: Smaug! #herebedragons #photoadaynov16 🐉🐲
