I loved this #bannedbook. It‘s a book designed to teach kids about being transgender, but can also be used to discuss labels of any kind. I loved the illustrations and I can imagine lots of great conversations being sparked.

AHHHHHHHH!!! How perfect is this book? I can clearly see what all the fuss is about. You may be born with a label, but all that matters is to be who you are, not who the label is. LOVE everything about this.

This is my all time favorite children‘s book! It‘s a F book written and illustrated by Michael Hall. This is a great RA for students 3rd grade and up to have a discussion about identity and differences. https://www.harpercollins.ca/9780062252098/red/ this link shares a little more about the book and a printable activity for the class. #ucflae3414su19
UDL strategy: 9.3
ESOL strategy: 17, 13
Red is a F picture book written and illustrated by Michael Hall. This book follows the life of a blue crayon in a red wrapper. He faces many challenges as he is expected to perform as a red crayon but is a blue crayon on the inside. He realizes that to be successful you need to be who you are and not what people want you to be. This book would be a great RA to encourage children to be who they want to be and not what others want them to be.

I've heard about this book many times, but never actually read it. When our *lovely* (NOT) state legislature basically forced our school district to remove Jacob's New Dress from the anti-bullying curriculum, 😡 this was the book substituted in its place. A story about learning who you are, being true to yourself, and supporting those around us.
We have been hearing a bit of “I can‘t wear that because it‘s not pink” or “We only play with boys” etc at preschool. I emailed my library to ask for some books about gender norms and acceptance, to help our kiddos be confident in what they like and accept their friends, and they gave me this treasure trove! The tagged book is my fave, but they are all wonderful. I can‘t wait to start with this one tomorrow and hear what color crayons they all are!
This page (and book) absolutely touched my heart. 💜 I remember hearing about this book when it was published, but was surprised to find it (available!) on my library‘s OverDrive page. So grateful I got the chance to read it, and I definitely will suggest and gift it to everyone I know. 🖍💙
This adorable F book is fantastic for your library. It is about a poor blue crayon that is labeled red. He is having an identity crisis and every other color has something to say about it. Until he realizes his true color! I would love to do a RA with this story and teach students this wonderful lesson on being yourself and not listening to others. #UCFLAE3414f17
Red is a PR or an IR F book about a crayon that‘s labeled red but colors blue, the issues it faces, and the solutions that are arrived at. It covers UDL: 2.3, 3.2, 7.2, 7.3, 8.2 and ESOL 1, 3, and 12. Red: A Crayon‘s Story by Michael Hall is a F picture book that would make a valuable GR for your classroom. The book holds an important message about acceptance that would become clear to students with the help of thoughtful guiding questions. #UCFLAE3414F17 #ClassroomLibrary

This F picture book, written and illustrated by best-selling picture book author Michael Hall, would be a great book for RA. The book is about Red, a blue crayon labeled red. Even with help from other crayons all his drawings turn out blue. Then, one day he meets a new friend who helps him realize that he is really blue! Red embraces this and draws all things that are blue and everyone cheers him on.
This F, E.B. White Read Aloud honor book would be an excellent addition to any elementary classroom library. The theme of this book is about being true to yourself. The red crayon label on this blue crayon confused everyone including his family and the teacher. In the end, being true to himself is what helped everyone accept him. This book would be best RA, using the HC teacher's guide to make use of effective B, D and A reading strategies.
For Pride weekend story hour, kind & dynamic local entertainer Blackberri read this moving picture book. The red crayon colors blue, he was just made that way, & learns to color beautiful blue oceans. My son liked the story & the illustrations are nice. Ages 2.5 and up for the book, I'd say. #kidsbooks #acceptance #tolerance #diversity
