Clover Hill is ten years old when her father, the principal of the local elementary school, marries a white woman, Sara Kate. Just hours later, an automobile accident compels Clover to forge a relationship with the new stepmother she hardly knows in this beautiful, enduring novel about a family lost and found. First published by Algonquin in 1990 and winner of the Lillian Smith Award for Southern literature that enhances racial awareness, Clover is a national bestseller and has been recommended reading for classrooms across the country. Now on our thirtieth anniversary we have the pleasure of republishing this Algonquin classic in trade paperback, with an original essay by the author. In the spirit of Cold Sassy Tree and The Secret Life of Bees, Clover is a witty, insightful classic for readers of all ages.

Mehso-so

CLOVER gave great insight into a specific and delicate situation. The difficulties Clover faces in adjusting to the loss of her father, her new stepmother, the fact that her stepmother is of a totally different race and culture, and the rest of the family getting used to the new wife was excellent. The narrative did wobble into territory beyond the voice of a young child and what she could understand, which ruined some parts for me. Worth a read.

@gibblr shared #pagehabit and I joined. Then the dominoes started falling and I headed to crate joy and started surfing. I decided to get a subscription to Call Number. How brilliant is it that they have a book only option? I think bookish items are cute and I do like surprises, but I never know what to do with the tchotchkes.

mrozzz !!!!! 7y
Sace @mrozzz lol. Is that a good !!! Or a bad !!! ? 7y
mrozzz It's like a "what are you doing to me!!!!" ? I'm gonna have 4 subscriptions by end of day. Lol 7y

gibblr Hahah I love it! I also get the Uppercase Box (of which I've only read one ever 😬) and I have to agree about the extra items. They're cute, but for the most part I leave them in the little bag they come in. If I really like one, I order an extra so I can use it and keep the other. I'm a weirdo!! 7y
Sace @mrozzz 😂😂😂 @gibblr started it. I'm just spreading the joy! 😁 7y
Sace @gibblr I tried Uppercase, but the books never appealed to me so I ended up giving them away. 7y
mrozzz True to the name! (Crate joy) 7y
LauraBrook I almost tried this one, but I tried Bookishly instead. It's a used ("previously loved") British paperback, stationery, and loose leaf tea for about $18. 7y
Sace @LauraBrook to quote @mrozzz !!! Must. Resist. 7y

This is my number one reading companion, Princess Clover. Her likes include Doritos, hunting small animals, and sitting on my books while I'm trying to read them. Dislikes include her brother, Sidney the Peasant, and belts that suspiciously resemble snakes. Also actual snakes.

MinDea 😂😸😻 7y
Read.Em.And.Eat I'm with her. I also very much dislike actual snakes. 😖 7y
the-flashley @Read.Em.And.Eat you and me both. She learned from the best 😂 7y

Zelma Your cat like Doritos too? One of mine goes crazy for them (really, anything crunchy, but especially Doritos). 7y
Soubhiville ❤️. It's like a dating profile! I especially love her because my sister's name is Clover. 7y
the-flashley @Zelma yes! I don't know what it is. But only the nacho cheese ones. If I have them she's immediately all up in my business. Lol she does also like popcorn and goldfish. 7y
Zelma @The-Flashley mine is pretty equal opportunity on crunchy stuff: chips, crackers, cereal, anything crunchy and not sweet. 7y
the-flashley @Soubhiville aww I love it! 7y
shanebeth pretty girl! 💕 7y
the-flashley @Zelma she tends to stick to the cheesy, buttery stuff. I suppose she is a cat. Haha (edited) 7y
Laura317 Sidney the Peasant? 7y
the-flashley @Laura317 Sidney is her biological brother who, in her mind, is socially of a lower class than herself and therefore a peasant. He wouldn't agree, but wasn't available to make an official comment. 😂 7y
Laura317 Poor Sidney! 😂😂 7y
