Two of my fav scary reads from my childhood, and I loved reading them to my kids as well. #allhallowsread #scaretober The illustrations in The House with a Clock in its Walls were done by Edward Gorey - amping up the awesome creepy factor! Plus they are set in Michigan! #puremichigan

Thedrunkstrawberry These are my favorite favorite favorite books to read this time of year. And as a bonus, my library has a lot of the ones with the Edward Gorey covers! 8y
GlitteryOtters I love John Bellairs sooo much! I just totally tried to hand sell his books to a kid & his grandma at my mom's local used book store this week (the bookstore clerk wasn't familiar with kidslit & they were looking for some good spooky stores that were age appropriate). Sadly, these old covers turned the kid off, but I told him "ignore the covers, just read the description, see if that's your thing", but he turned his nose up at them. His loss. 8y
missjenniferlowe I loved John Bellairs as a kid! I should re-read those. 8y

LauraBrook John Bellairs is the best! The Gorey covers are so the reason to own these books. It's that kids loss! I gave a copy of the first in one of his series to my friends daughter and she loved it. Made me so happy to pass on the Bellairs love! 8y
Bookgirl @GlitteryOtters whaaaat the covers turned him off? I love these covers! I don't know who the illustrator was for this version of The Letter The Witch and The Ring but they are great also. @LauraBrook @Thedrunkstrawberry these are such awesome books! @missjenniferlowe I enjoyed rereading them as an adult and confess I've reread them more than once long past YA age! 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled The House with a Clock in its Walls!! I haven't thought of that book in 30 years! What nostalgia! Thanks for remembering that one for me 8y
quietjenn I love Bellairs! Totally missed them as a kid, so I read them as an adult and they were still such a pleasure. 8y
