The Fourth Sacrifice
The Fourth Sacrifice: China Thriller 2 | Peter May
7 posts | 9 read | 2 to read
THE SECOND NOVEL IN THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED CHINA SERIES, FROM THE MILLION-SELLING AUTHOR OF THE RICHARD AND JUDY BESTSELLER THE BLACKHOUSE. THE SECOND OPINION The Chinese police have once more been forced to enlist the services of American forensic pathologist Margaret Campbell: this time to investigate a series of four horrific ritual executions that have taken place in Beijing. THE THIRD DEGREE Detective Li Yan is determined to discover just how one of the victims in particular, an American diplomat, became caught up in the slaying. And he is arguably even more determined to have nothing to do with Campbell. THE FOURTH SACRIFICE The polarity that once attracted Yan and Campbell eventually pulls them back into partnership. Yet the closer they are drawn to the truth, the nearer they come to a killer prepared to use extreme force to conceal it.

This is the 2nd book in the China Thrillers series. There have been a series of related gruesome murders that the main characters, a Chinese police detective and an American pathologist, need to solve. Not as good as the first, this is still a solid mystery, if a bit predictable. There is a lot of ancient Chinese history here that did not particularly interest me - it might interest some, but it just wasn‘t my cup of tea. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 ❤️📚

#20in4 @Andrew65 (3 hrs 20 min)
Book 2 of the China thrillers
I love this author, Margaret planned to leave China, but is "asked to help" with autopsy of a murder, a serial killer is on the loose. Li Yan has been ordered to end any connection he developed with her. But he has to deal with her for this case. Margaret meets a handsome archeologist, so maybe she can forget Li Yan.

TheAromaofBooks You're really making me want to get busy on May's back catalogue. I've only read a few of his books but loved all of them that I've tried! 3y

This is the second book in the Margaret Campbell / Li Yan Series. Margaret Campbell is an American Pathologist and Li Yan a Chinese Detective. They are working together on cases in China, which certainly gives a very different and unique feel to the book, many cultural clashes. There is also an interesting dynamic between the two of them from the word go. Would definitely recommend this series.

Bluebird Peter May. ✔️ Mystery series. ✔️Set in China. ✔️Recommended by Andrew. ✔️Hmmmm too many boxes checked I guess this is another one to add to my ever expanding TBR shelf. 7y
Andrew65 @Bluebird I'm slowly working my way through all Peter May's work. You definitely can't go wrong with him, but The Lewis Trilogy and Entry Island are still my favourites. 7y
Bluebird Entry Island has been staring angrily at me for the past several months. I came across the print version at our library sale and intended to read it right away...then the library loans started pouring in. 😢hopefully I'll get to it soon. 7y
Andrew65 @Bluebird A good book for a challenge of you need Canada or an island. 7y

How bizarre is this! I am currently listening to The Fourth Sacrifice as my commute book and reading The Emperor's Tomb (Steve Berry) and not only do they both have me in China at the same time but both have me amongst the Terracota Army in Xi'an at the same time!

Melissa_J Is this the start of a new May series? 7y
Andrew65 No this is actually the second book of his first series (Yan and Campbell) set in China, although he has published the seventh book in this series this year after a 13 year gap. 7y
