The First Rule
The First Rule | Robert Crais
4 posts | 10 read | 4 to read
When Frank Meyer and his family are executed in their home, the police begin investigating the secret life they're sure Meyer had. Joe Pike's on a hunt of his own: to clear his friend's name, and to punish the people who murdered him. What starts out as a simple trail gets twisted fast by old grudges, double crosses, blood vengeance, and a crime so terrible even Pike and his partner Elvis Cole have no way to measure it.

Great addition to the Cole/Pike series. Pike is the main character here, so it has less humor than the Cole-centered books, but it develops Pike more than those, also. Lots of action, some double crosses, red herring, and great characters.

7 feelings, in book form, upon hearing my inlaws are moving to town.
The Opposite of Worry - this will not consume me.
The Summer's End - they sold their resort condo in FL. No more free vacations.
The Survivor. It'll be OK
Comfort Food - good thing it's acceptable to eat and drink a lot in December.
The First Rule - never show up w/o calling first.
Friday Night Lights - date nights!
Plum Lucky - my 5yo will have a set of Grandparents close by!

ElishaLovesBooks This is so clever! I hope it all goes ok- you definitely hit all the feels! (I have always lived in the same city as my in-laws😂😂) 6y
jbhops @ElishaLovesBooks the closest we have ever lived to family is 2.5 hours so this is going to be VERY weird! 6y
MayginReads Very clever! I love it. 6y
AmyG I understand all your feelings. It will all be fine. Set your limits. Years ago mine moved 7 minutes away. I survived. It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. (Most of the time). Hugs? (edited) 6y
jbhops @AmyG thanks! They were thinking of buying the house that's for sale 5 houses down. We got lucky... Lol 6y

Bk13 in the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series and it doesn't disappoint. Another action packed thriller, this time mostly about Pike. When Frank Meyer and his family are killed in a home invasion, Pike, who worked with Frank in Africa, intends to hunt down the men responsible. But when ATF & the Serbian mob are involved, it's a lot harder to stay the invisible man. Loved this one, but then I'm crazy about Pike!😎❤️

Onto Bk13 in the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike books, this one is more of a Pike book though. Frank Meyer is a former mercenary that worked with Pike during his days in Africa & South East Asia. When Frank & his entire family are murdered, Pike goes on the warpath to avenge a friend. And nobody wants to get in his way. Love love love Pike!😎❤️
