The Less Than Perfect Legend of Donna Creosote
The Less Than Perfect Legend of Donna Creosote | Dan Micklethwaite
12 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
"Donna Crick-Oakley walks on six inches of stories every day. She may live on the top floor of a tower block but she still pads her walls and floor with books to shut the real world further out. Or do they only shut her in? Armed with her myths and medieval adventures, Donna sets out to escape her isolation and change her home town to better suit her dreams.THE LESS THAN PERFECT LEGEND OF DONNA CREOSOTE is a modern fairy tale from the inner city, where the mundane becomes fantastical and the everyday ethereal, but where living happily ever after is often easier read than done."

Pickpick

I thought this was a bittersweet tale that's not necessarily the one the blurb promises, but one that is great nonetheless. I liked the Don Quixote links a lot and the forays into fantasy were cleverly done.

Bailedbailed

"Less than perfect" would be an exaggeration. I quit at the 8% mark. Why are books about bookworms usually so awful?

Megabooks I don't know, but it's true. 7y
Onioons Pity, that's a great title! 7y
UnderTheRadarBooks I gave this one 2 stars. I wish I would have just bailed 🙄🙄🙄 7y
LeahBergen I find many of them mawkish or twee. Or both. 😬 7y
shawnmooney @Ebooksandcooks @Onioons @UnderTheRadarBooks @LeahBergen Of course, different strokes for different folks, but the other one that was so nauseatingly mawkish I had to bail was 7y

Soubhiville Yes, exactly! You can't just leave that poor sad and lonely book there! It needs a home where it will be loved and cherished! Especially if it's unusual, who else would want it? 7y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled 😂 i love it when someone captures my thoughts so succinctly 7y

I've been sitting on this review for awhile and am still struggling to reflect on it. I think some people will love it but I just despised it. Without giving too much away, it wasn't at all what I expected and I was disappointed with the reality. I expected a magical, bookish adventure and instead got a depressed, socially awkward alcoholic who escapes in her books to avoid her life. I wanted more hope and maybe some joy and there was none.

MrBook Good review! 8y

I am late in listening to the latest podcast from The Readers. I'm 80% through, walking home from work on a wonderfully cool night in Tokyo, and very much wishing @SavidgeReads a speedy recovery. His luscious rant about this particular novel has got me all worked up about reading it as soon as possible!

shawnmooney Wow, and only $2 on Kindle Japan! 8y

Lynnsoprano Sorry my Eagles put a damper on it😌 8y
Zelma @Lynnsoprano I switched it off before the end. They are terrible! 8y
Zelma @britt_brooke @MrBook at least the book was enjoyable! And I threw in some West Wing repeats. 8y
