Ashfall
Ashfall | Mike Mullin
Many visitors to Yellowstone National Park donOCOt realize that the boiling hot springs and spraying geysers are caused by an underlying supervolcano, so large that the caldera can only be seen by plane or satellite. And by some scientific measurements, it could be overdue for an eruption. For Alex, being left alone for the weekend means having the freedom to play computer games and hang out with his friends without hassle from his mother. Then the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts, plunging his hometown into a nightmare of darkness, ash, and violence. Alex begins a harrowing trek to seach for his family and finds help in Darla, a travel partner he meets along the way. Together they must find the strength and skills to survive and outlast an epic disaster."

This was really good. It drew me in right away. I thought the author did a really good job of the descriptions – of the noise, of the dark... It‘s scary the kinds of things people will do following a disaster like this. Some of the people Alex comes across are helpful, but many are not. I believe this is a trilogy, so it didn‘t fully finish. There was a short author‘s note at the end, as well, to talk about this kind of potential disaster

I could not put this book down! I read the first half in one sitting, and finished the rest in another. I love volcanoes so maybe this is just super in my wheelhouse. It‘s action packed, nonstop, yet tender and sweet too. It‘s everything I want in a post apocalyptic story! Highly recommend

I love disaster or apocalypse stories. This one is not disappointing me so far! Fast paced, and engrossing. An enjoyable and fast YA read.

I love dystopian fiction and books about survival, especially when you feel “oh man this could totally happen! What the heck would I do!?” Can‘t wait to get into this one!

Another good dystopia with interesting characters and an action-packed plot. Though it didn't wow me, I did enjoy it and read the entire trilogy. It's worth checking out.

Panic attack inducing! I couldn't read the others.

coffeenebula I liked this one! I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic shenanigans. Wasn't aware there are sequels - but I guess anymore it's safe to assume. 8y
BookJunkie429 @roadsister I had to give up reading realistic apocalyptic books, because they were making my anxiety worse. But I did like it! There 3 books out now, & the 4th comes out in 2018. 8y
