I should be reading but ….😁 season 3
#StorySettings #Office 5 young women who want to live & work in New York working in a publishing house typing pool. Published in 1958 , filled with office politics & sexist men doing what they do in such a setting. One young woman has set her standards high, she wants to become an editor. A novel I really enjoyed when I read it awhile back. Made me think of The TV series Mad Men at times.
#ReadingChallenge #poetry #readingwithmaja Well, this was my April poetry pick , so life getting in the way of reading persists. Atwood‘s poetry is very good , her topics then same as now. Nature, living ,aging, family, just universal. Novels or poetry, Atwood is always worth reading. Always thought provoking.Margaret is 84 years old now ,and still adding to the conversations of life & literature.
RIP Alice Munro https://www.theguardian.com/books/2024/may/14/alice-munro-obituary
Sophie looks on..
This is the first book from Ode Books,a line to celebrate book spaces & book people. Paul has been the principal buyer for City Lights for over 50 yrs. His insights & curious mind shines in this Q&A volume. City Lights has always been at the forefront of the avant-garde, world literature, LGBTQ+ & POCauthors, he honors his fellow booksellers & the book buying community by always featuring works that will expand your knowledge of the world.Sublime!
#StorySettings #Skyscraper one of my favorite books of New York City photos. It was a WPA project, many of the structures photographed no longer exist.

“I think I fell in love with Sally while she was eating breakfast, the first morning we were together.”
These 38 essays are a tribute to McMurtrys mentorship of readers & writers. I knew little about his era teaching at Rice, or his love of early women‘s travel writing. His life changed when a cousin dropped off a box of books to the family ranch as he headed to WWII. I have always been fascinated by his book scout years ,his turning Archer City , Tx. Into a book town. I haven‘t read all his books so some are left to savor!
Crissy has done well for herself, becoming an artist in residence portraying a Princess Diana who sings, touching hearts of the fans that sell out her shows. her life hasn‘t been perfect, she spends her days slightly self medicated in her cabana by the pool.Things change drastically when her estranged sister shows up,adopted teen & boyfriend in tow. Chrissy‘s boss is found dead in the desert, things unravel from there.Characters & Las Vegas shine!
#StorySettings #Seaside A lot of readers call this one an unrated Stephen King title, I have no opinion as it is another one on #TBRMoutain 😂Sheesh, I have so much reading to do!
#StorySettings #River There were raves about this book when it first came out, this copy was passed to me by a friend & it languishes on my #TBRMountain as well. I have heard it‘s really good though a dense read . Historical fiction dealing with Germany in the WWII years will be covering difficult things. Hope to get to it soon.
#StorySettings #Mountain playing catch up. This is Abbey‘s 3rd novel ,originally published in 1962 . Still on my #TBRMountain
@BarbaraBB posted about Paul Auster so I dug up a few. His works always seem to have , luck, chance, & wonder. I loved Smoke , the film he worked on and wrote with Wayne Wang . The last one I read was Leviathan. I really like him, I end up talking up his books & if the person is interested, give them to them. I bought 4321 right after it came out, but haven‘t read it yet! I haven‘t read them all , example Baumgartner from 2023. RIP Paul.
May the 4th be with you ! Happy Star Wars Day
#TLT #ThreeListThursday I‘m not surprised. I watched so many movies from the 80s !😂 I‘m not that surprised by which ones I didn‘t watch, my tastes haven‘t changed that much. These are common rewatches,Blues Brothers,Big Chill, Ferris Bueller, Bull Durham.
2 from the 80s high on my list that never make the lists, both from 1981, Reds & Ragtime .
I should have jumped on it , not like I don‘t have anything to read around here! 😁
My picks : The Ministry Of Time /Kaliane Bradley
Real Americans /Rachel Khong
#BOTM
Well, that makes me sad. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2024/may/01/paul-auster-dies-aged-77-death-ame...
#SundayFunday Think this is the most of one title I own. The manga on top kinda counts!😁The interesting thing about the leather bound, that is a 7th printing of the Shakespeare & Company 1st edition. It was declared obscene. For Americans trying to bring in back into the states it was suggested they have them bound in Paris as the customs inspectors didn‘t remember the title or author, they were told to look for the distinctive blue paper cover.
Happy #IndependentBookstoreday! Support them if you can. I have so many in the house not yet read , keep saying I need a big stash in case of a book apocalypse! Changing Hands bookmark in this photo is 10 years old , they celebrated their 50th anniversary April 1st this year. Even scored a signed edition , looking at you @ChrisBohjalian
The store was crowded, some folks had shopping baskets of books , some enjoying a coffee, talking books! Yay
#whartonbuddyread Yay! I finished book 1 ! It is called the children for a reason, there are many children in it!😁Looking forward to the discussion tomorrow. The is the bookstore sticker inside the back cover of this book.
#whartonbuddyread Here I go! Hopefully will get through book one in time for discussion on the 27th.Found this lovely original edition at a cheap book sale!
The foster who became a permanent, a big personality who wanted to be an only cat but slowly adapted to a cat family, Nacho ,who loved tortilla chips & attention , passed yesterday and my heart is broken.
Wow, Bosch books never fail, now I‘m all caught up. Ballard & Bosch have been working cold cases for a while , they work well together. Bosch is particularly intent on finding his white whale, a murderer evil enough to take out a whole family. Connelly is very good in describing how politics & appearances influence higher ups in policing. #seriesLove2024
From the moment I was deposited back into civilian life after the Trump inauguration, I felt compelled to get away from what was happening in America.
#FirstLineFridays #SpringSkies #FallInTitle
I get why this isn‘t for everyone. It is a bit different to have nonfiction intertwined with your fiction. I was drawn in and deeply moved by this novel. It is hard to describe. The writing is often beautiful, a great understanding of how humans navigate this life. A feeling of melancholy lingers. I had read the mixed reviews, I found it on the library shelves & decided to give it a try.
Lost a treasure this weekend. Rest in Power https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/04/14/style/faith-ringgold-death-tar-beach-quilts
#SpringSkies #OneWordTitle I‘ve posted the title page of this one before, but not the lovely exterior.
As I contemplate about how to approach a major sort of all the books , I saw this posted , I couldn‘t resist to see if there were copies left at Blackwell‘s , now it‘s mine ! Ba ha ha !
#serieslove2024 It may sound odd that on a bad health day ( nothing too serious) that one finds “ comfort “in a series with murders , rapes , gangs & etc. Yet Ballard is a great cop & her work with retired Harry Bosch is always interesting. Even the bad cops get their due now & then. It‘s hard to believe I‘m nearly up to date on the Bosch series. The reality of Covid was handled well in this book without overwhelming the story.Kudos to Connelly!
I read some of his books years ago , probably would get more out of them now , or not! 😊😢 https://www.npr.org/2024/04/03/1242508803/john-barth-novelist-author-obituary
#SpringSkies #BookClubRead #buddyread My book club reads that I am behind on !Twilight Sleep , I almost caught up for #WhartonBuddyRead but I‘m only on part 7 for #SuitableBoy2024 everyone else is on part 9 . between all the drop every thing and go errands & other diversions hard time keeping up ! I‘m even late with this post! 😁
#ReadingChallenge #poetry #readingwithmaja
A brilliant selection of poems , covers the inheritance of violence from Partition to our current age.Her take on being a Pakistani Muslim woman in America is challenging & interesting. Lyrical, modern, & historical all at the same time.
#ItTakesAllKinds #withVacation Mrs Maisel was a delightful show all around, I especially enjoyed the families visit to the Catskills! I‘ve read a lot about it in its heyday, nice to see it come to life on the screen.
#ItTakesAllKinds #BkmentionedInBk sometimes I think I was fortunate not to ever been assigned this book in school. I mean even though I loved reading, kids sometimes think the teacher is feeding you some life lesson you don‘t want to eat ! Any who, he had me at “all that David Copperfield kind of crap”
#TLT #ThreeListThursday

Happy Opening Day 2024 to all who celebrate!🎉 ⚾️
As I try to finish book 1 of #WhartonBuddyRead find myself thinking Edith was up to speed about Perry Baker who renamed himself Dr. Pierre Bernard bringing yoga to America. Lots of scandal & running from the law , criticism from clergy, etc. And was it sex cult? I‘m not sure, still on my TBR .
#ItTakesAllKinds #FoodOnCover A cookbook I‘ve had for years , a few recipes are favorites. I also always thought it had a lovely cover.
#ItTakesAllKinds #WithRain need to get to this one , been on my TBR since it was published! 😳😄
