Lori and her husband Bill (and Aunt Dimity) visit Derek's father at his families estate. There are threats to Derek's cousin, Lori is determined to get to the bottom of it. I cannot remember the details of all of the stories in this series, I forget them as soon as I finish the book. The characters stay with me though, and each time I read Aunt Dimity it is like visiting good friends.

1. Not a specific memory - I remember going to the library a lot as a child - I loved getting and reading books! (and you had to go to the library to do your research papers and homework as well!!)
2. The library - I still love going to the library!

The Other Passenger | Louise Candlish

Bailedbailed

The story did not grab me - Jaime is bored with his life (it seems), insecure about his relationship with Clare. They meet younger couple Kit and Melia and this injects some life into Jaime (and Clare) - then it starts to unravel. Kit goes missing, and question becomes if Jaime did it - or was he set up? ⬇️

bthegood I did read to see how it ended - and am satisfied that I DNF'd this one. Writing is fine, plot is fine but not good enough for me to want to spend any more time with it.
Moving on to get a #BookSpinBingo this month 😊

I think these stories are perfect. Gamache and Beauvoir and Lacoste must solve another murder in Three pines. All the characters are there - Clara and Peter, Ruth, Myrna, Gabri and Olivier. The woman murdered, Madeleine, seems perfect, loved who would want to put out her star?? Gamache's past (the Arnot case) is still a problem. ⬇️

bthegood The murder is solved, part of the Arnot problem is solved, but Clara and Peter leave us with a cliffhanger - will Peter feel joy for Clara's artistic success? Overall, a very good read!

The Dutch House | Ann Patchett
post image
Pickpick

The story of siblings Danny and Maeve growing up in the Dutch House and the many people who came into their lives over the years. The story is told from Danny's POV. Patchett nails the way children interpret and understand the things that go on in families that no one explains to them, and how those interpretations and understandings change as children grow into adults. It is a beautiful story, beautifully written and narrated. ⬇️

bthegood Tom Hanks is perfect for the narration (not sure if it reading it would have same effect as listening to it). Overall - favorite of the year so far.

Korede's sister Ayoola's boyfriends keep dying. Korede starts to worry when Ayoola is attracted to Tade, a doctor Korede works with and likes. Korede shares all of her thoughts and secrets to a patient in a coma - who wakes up. Ayoola's incredible narcissism and Korede constantly getting dumped on by everyone in her life wore me out. The background on the sisters parents did help explain their relationship. ⬇️

bthegood Overall, a good story and I enjoyed how the story was told, the main characters just got on my nerves (except the guy in the coma) and it wasn't as witty or “fun“ as I thought it would be.

This has been my least favorite in the series. Mrs. Hooper dies mysteriously and all of the neighbors in Finch suspect one another, but protect one another because they did not like Mrs. Hooper (big gossip and trouble maker). Lori (MC) is out to find the truth with the help of Nicholas Fox, the vicars nephew. I still like the characters but in this one Lori has a “wandering eye“ for Nicholas, her husband accepts it, nothing happens but ⬇️

bthegood ...it seemed childish and not necessary for the plot or a cozy. The rest of the storyline, death and gossip and clearing the air between neighbors, was good. Will definitely continue with the series.

Chief Inspector Gamache, Agents Beauvoir and LaCoste, Clara, Peter, Ruth, Myrna, Gabri, and Olivier - I feel attached to the characters and Three Pines. In this one CC dePoitiers is murdered, and no one seemed to like her. Gamache is also working on a side case - to solve the murder of a homeless woman named Elle. Overall, very good read. ⬇️

In the second book to the series Stevie is still trying to solve the 1930s kidnapping/murders at Ellingham Academy. Her friends are more involved this time (Janelle, Nate and Vi, and Larry - the security officer) - David (her complicated in a teenage way maybe boyfriend) has gone off the rails, but has a plan? ⬇️

bthegood Another student is found dead (present day) - by the end the kidnapping and one murder solved from the 1930s, but cliffhanger for everything else (and more deaths). Another solid read, good writing, story past and present is engaging. Will continue reading to see how it all ends.
