My favorite mystery is the cozy kind...although, I tease about how morbid it is to combine “cozy“ with “murder mystery.“

After the intensity of my 2 previous reads, this was a nice stroll.

Wonderful, positive Bible quotes were weaved into this. My favorite,

I Corinthians 13 Verse 7
Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

This has waited on my bookshelf for years, glad I finally made the journey into this story.

As some of you have learned about me, I am a “little“ obsessed with Batman...😂, I know, more like a little, overly, obsessed with Batman.

And this remains my absolute favorite story about my favorite superhero.

The first “reread“ of a book without a single, pretty illustration 🤔, and I loved just the same as I had the first time reading this book. 👇

AnnCrystal Some of this feels “reported,“ yet it seemed to fit the flow of the story.

An origin story that perfectly wraps the beginnings of Bruce Wayne's character and his making of Batman.

Wish I had kept a book journal when I was younger...read how my younger self felt about some of my gold star reads. I've only devotedly began one since becoming a Litten 😉👍.

This one keeps all of the Gold 🤩 Stars I originally gave. Excellent!

#ThinkPositiveBePositive

Stay positive and safe out there Littens.

I read this today and couldn't help but cringe...every time I venture out, It seems more and more people in my neighborhood are grumpier and angrier.

A few days ago, was out and about with my Mom when some guy walked up to her and pointed to the south while he said “the border is over there, you belong that way.“ All I overheard was the word “border.“ 👇

AnnCrystal I was shocked when my mom told me what the man had said as we watched the guy walk away.

My mom gets quiet and sad when prejudice is thrown at her. She was born in Sacramento, the capital of California. By her mother, she is third generation Californian. Our maternal line traces back to Arizona USA.

I was raised to believe that anger can be contagious...I was also raised that kindness is the only cure. 👇

AnnCrystal It's difficult to remain positive in this crazy world...but I still believe kindness and positivity will prevail. Believe in the ripple effect 😉🫂🙏💝.

This evening, my mom and I were watching one of our favorite shows. Todd (one of the main characters of the show) is sitting and waiting for a clue at a restaurant when a series of names are called out for order pickup. One of the names given is my brother's name, Ulysses Joe! How epic!

Just found out that this TV show, So Help Me Todd has been cancelled!!!! Not another one, still not over the cancelation of the Fantasy Island reboot.

RamsFan1963 That's why I stopped watching TV. Every time I got invested in a show and the characters, boom it gets cancelled and I never get an ending. I'm still pissed at CBS for leaving fans hanging with no end to the Scorpion series after 4 seasons. 2w
AnnCrystal @RamsFan1963 it seems like that. Cancelled or moved to “streaming only.“

Each and every time another show is cancelled, I always tell myself to only continue with what I'm already invested in and add nothing new to my lineup...that usually lasts until the fall 😂 of each year.

I now try considering any “short run“ shows as mini-series...which is difficult if they don't have a good finale.

📺🎬😉👍.

When we went to Walmart a few weeks ago, the store had revamped the DVD and book selection. This was one of the goodies I discovered.

Mix of the TV show Wednesday, with equal parts Beauty and The Beast meets Dracula, and a bit of Orson Welles as Edward Rochester in the 1943 version of Jane Eyre...all of this mixed well and transformed into a uniquely original, paranormal mystery. 👇

AnnCrystal This did get a bit too steamy, which seemed to interrupt on the mysterious flow of the story.

Wraps up nicely, & seemed to hint at a continuation. The next book doesn't seem to continue, it goes back to the 1870s with new characters at the same castle.

If there is a 3rd book, possibly we will be given a story that moves forward from this 1st one. Nonetheless, I'm excited about Arkana (the second book, which has no release date yet). 👇
3w
AnnCrystal The “who did it“ came as a complete surprise. A well done mystery. Yet, there is still a bunch of the mystery left unwritten.

This book has a “readers warning note.“ While I don't feel there is a need to add on to this warning, I do want to highlight something that I will hide in the following comment 👇.

3w
AnnCrystal There is an apparent suicide actually depicted when everyone watches as one of the characters steps off the rooftop. 3w

Fell to sleep while reading this, and awoke with the song, Bring Me To Life by Evanescence blasting (not literally). I guess my subconscious has found a song match for this book 😂, and here my waking self has been considering something more classical 🤔. Been ages since listening to this...

Already reading four books at the moment, don't need to start another book when my limit is normally three.

Then I decided to take a peek inside this beauty before adding it to my bookshelf.

I understand colors, purple invokes mystique, framed by black increases that mystery. Yet I have allowed this book to put its spell on me 🧐. 👇

AnnCrystal I felt like I opened something antique and magical when I went to peek inside.

It began with one page, just to get a preview (you all probably know how that goes 😂).

This does have a reader warning, which I always appreciate. I know to be prepared to jump scenes if necessary.

Hope the story is as good as its packaging...

2 - Never read the book, yet the other day we watched the movie, “The Secret.“

My mom always raised my brother and I to think positively, be positive. In our cultural ways, my mom has even taught me that in everything I make, cooking/baking, gardening, craft/arts, to be positive while creating because what you make absorbs the energies.

A rarity that only comes around every 71-74 years. The best time to view it should have been on April 8th 2024.

Yet I cannot find any updates about this that are dated in April 2024.

Strange.

Did anyone try to see this during the eclipse?

I will keep searching...💫☄️🤩. Just wondering if anyone else is curious about the lack of interest about this rarity.

AnnCrystal My mom was the least favorite of her abusive, acholic mother. She married my father, who (along with his family) was verbally abusive. Her mother (often) kept her from school, and when my dad kept her from continuing an EDU, my mom taught herself how to read, a second-language, and more. My dad's an insanely good worker (workaholic), but he also enjoys gambling and (given the chance) substance abuse. My mom manages the household...👇

AnnCrystal and since my dad hates kids (she had to plead with him to come see my brother when he was born), my mom's like a single mother. When my brother became sick, she was all alone with my brother in the hell of the hospital system. My dad was supposed to watch me, but he left me to his multiple-abusive (don't ask me about this) family members and friends while he lived a bachelors life. Through all this, I...👇

AnnCrystal watched my mom become stronger with her faith while my dad went searching. Outcast by most of her family (among their reasons, she doesn't drink, and can't handle hospitals or funerals). When my tutor gave up on teaching me to read (I'm a late reader. My brother was the genius), my mom found a way to teach me using Silent Movies. 👇 (edited) 1mo

AnnCrystal While I have experienced polite racism, my mom has faced truly hateful racism (some I've even witness).

I could go on. My mom is like Bruce Wayne, she won't allow evils & difficult times to taint her character.

My mom: Have any plans for the weekend?

Me: Nope.

My mom: How about a series binge-watch?

Me: Sounds like a plan. What should we watch?

My mom: Let me surprise you.

Me: Epic.

This past Friday evening,

My mom: Who is your favorite character on the Addams Family?

Me: The daughter, Wednesday. Why?

My mom: You mean, this Wednesday? (whips out this DVD).

Me: 🧐🤩💃😉👍.

I swear that my mom is some kind of magician! 👇

AnnCrystal This was incredible. Absolutely brilliant and stunning.

As expected, Tim Burton spun his magic magnificently.

Jenna Ortega made a perfect Wednesday Addams. She is as incredible at the character as Christina Ricci had been.

This was like a dark Nancy Drew meets Harry Potter. Twisted in a way that is originally Addams family authentic.

Amazing.

I've made a list of the books I'd like to reread (one day. Eventually. Maybe).

I do believe I've rediscovered the book I want to top this list with...🤔who am I trying to kid? Like Batman would ever be 2nd on a list of good things I make😂! Only if there were two Batman books 😉. 👇

AnnCrystal It has been awhile since I've watched/read this. I do believe it remains my favorite storyline...except for the Bat-mobile being transformed into a Bat-tank, although that's just my personal taste in automobiles.

This might prove the perfect, unofficial continuation, to the book I recently read about young-adult Bruce Wayne by Marie Lu (Batman: Nightwalker). 👇

Like I've noted, love stories are not my kind of reads...unless there is something I particularly like about the storyline.

If this hadn't been a time-slip, I would't have read it & that would've been a shame because these characters were wonderful.

This one was simply a cute and whimsical romance what was infused with the interesting message about “living“ your dreams.

Would make a great series with wacky Aunt Livi as the magical matchmaker!

It was right around St. Valentine's Day when I went 2 Walmart & found this. Their bookshelves had mostly Romance reads.

I usually browse to see if there is any love stories in the fantasy genre. This time however, I just finished watching the novela, #amorimposible & I “needed“ something similar.

By the time I found this, it felt like buried treasure. It didn't seem what I was searching for at that moment in time, yet it was fantasy...👇

AnnCrystal At first, it seemed similar to the the start of, The Kiesha're series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes: a marriage to bring peace.

Not perfect, yet an unexpected delight! Even had the Beauty And The Beast vibes that had made me obsessed with, Amor Imposible.

Here's some notions...

Vampires were missing a bit of the mysterious they're usually known for. Nonetheless, I did like that the vampires were a species instead of some type of mutation. 👇
1mo
AnnCrystal Loved the Were's & how they seemed the most sophisticated of the three species. I'm careful with “wolf“ books because many seem to still hold a negative perspective about wolves, or are overly x-rated. While this did become steamy, it did not incredibly dominant the storyline...and they became acquainted first.

Lowe's demeanor seemed to suggest someone who is well into their thirties and not twenty-something.

Oh, what a lovely read.

Batman Begins - equal.

Will Trent (TV series). While not completely fair, because I never read the books... someone said that the books are graphic and what I like about the TV show is that they focus on the characters and emotions instead of the violence and crimes. 👇

Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. I believe I read all the books (unless the series has since continued), yet I had only really enjoyed book one. The movies have my vote. 👇

The first three books of, The Old Kingdom Series.

Original reviewed 2016, updated for Litsy 2024.

My mom bought me these books when I was in high school. The bookstore clerk highly recommended them. For whatever reason, it took me awhile to open and read them. One day, I reached up and pulled Sabriel (part one) off my bookshelf and read the first few pages.

I was hooked.

I read through the first one like a storm, which remains my favorite. 👇

AnnCrystal Sabriel can stand on its own, but I recommend the whole trilogy (which is now a series) if you want the whole story.

These books are about life and death, mainly about death and the journey through to the afterlife.

This is all about the dead not wanting to let go of life, and about the struggle against an evil of ancient times.

Sabriel and the Disreputable Dog are my favorite characters. . .and of course, who wouldn't like the sassy cat. 👇
1mo
AnnCrystal I highly recommend this whole series. I began reading this when I was a teenager but still find the continuations great reads as an adult. If you want an entertaining story, full or mystery, humor, and thrills you just may like these books.

Now that this is a series, I'm thrilled! Three books were simply not enough. Still need to read the latest...I'm a terrible number one fan!

While I have been following Amelia Atwater-Rhodes since her very first book, I like the Kiesha'ra series the best out of all her books. A land of shapeshifters and magic.

The story begins with a war between two families, the Falcons and the Cobras. In later books, the Hawks and Wolfs will play key rolls.

A fantastic read.

Wow, it's been years since I've read these books. They kind of all blend together now, but they still remain one of my favorites.

The dramas of growing up. Making and losing friends. Mysteries to solve and backstabbing between best friends. The pangs of first love. All surrounded by magic.

I wish this book would have went on for 100 books, but it ended at number 15 with the message that true love never dies. 👇

I had always dream of opening my own bookstore. When I was 16 I made this sign.

While I doubt that I will ever actually open my own book store, I have reenvisioned my dream shop & don't mind sharing this.

It was going to be fantasy/paranormal focused with steampunk decor.

While I've noticed that some Littens work with books, wondering if anyone here ever dream of opening a bookstore? Do you believe there is a chance these days?

AnnCrystal What would your store look like? 1mo
BarkingMadRead I just opened a bookshop in December, it‘s more of a book stall, at a vendor boutique. It‘s so much fun, I don‘t have to be there every day, I got in once a week to straighten up and add books! Don‘t give up your dream! I‘m also seeing lots of book vans and book bus stores that travel around each weekend 1mo
DaveGreen7777 Oooh, I love the sign! 🤩 And I agree with @BarkingMadRead Don‘t give up on your dream! These days, independent bookstores are more likely to succeed than bookstore chains anyway. The Boarders that used to be near me was still doing a lot of business when it closed down, it only had to close because the corporation shut it down. There are more than enough readers to support bookstores that don‘t answer to a corporation! 😁 1mo

Discovered way back when Target devoted a huge portion of the stores to books, music, & DVDs (oh, those were the days, 🤔, although not really that long ago 😂).

When I leaned the author was only a couple of years older than me, I became an immediate fan.

Since it has been years, I cannot give this a indepth review, yet this book & author will always remain among my favorites.

DaveGreen7777 I can so relate to your comment about when Target sold books, CDs, and DVDs! I still lament the loss of my local Borders bookstore that sold all three! 😭 1mo
AnnCrystal @DaveGreen7777 Oh, Borders!! I spent hours upon hours there as a teenager...they even sold magazines...🥲that was a magical store📚! (edited) 1mo
AnnCrystal @DaveGreen7777 did you ever shop at Fry's? They didn't sell books (only movies, music, magazines). WOW, they were a place of fantasy. Every store was fashioned after a theme. Alice In Wonderland, space, etc. Oh, I miss them too! 1mo

DaveGreen7777 @AnnCrystal Oh, I‘m not familiar with Fry‘s, but it sounds amazing. I live in the Northeast, and we had Newbury Comics, which was similar. No novels, but they sold comic books and magazines, as well as CDs, DVDs, and collectibles. They didn‘t do cool things like fashion their stores after a theme, though. ☹️ 1mo
AnnCrystal @DaveGreen7777 any book/comic/movie/music store is a rarity these days. Actually, I haven't been to an actual bookstore in years...I know, shame on me👀! (edited) 1mo
