I'd read this a few weeks ago and enjoyed the #NancyDrewBR discussion hosted by @Librarybelle, but I'm just now catching up with a bunch of reviews.

This was another good installment in the series. I especially liked that we got a proper introduction to Ned Nickerson.

#LittenDetectives : We are two weeks away from our next #NancyDrewBR discussion! What happens when Nancy receives a mysterious letter? Let‘s find out!

Questions will be posted on June 15th!

Bookwormjillk My library only has the audiobook for this one. I‘m interested to see what that‘s like. 22h
Librarybelle @Bookwormjillk Is Laura Linney the narrator? I‘ve not listened to her narrations, but I hear they are good. 22h
BarkingMadRead Can‘t wait!! 22h

Mehso-so

This one felt a little slower than some of the other ones, but I actually really enjoyed the mystery. However, a lot of the characters came across as dumb for believing the scam happening in the story. But, ultimately, it was interesting and I enjoyed it.

One of the few Nancy Drews I don't own for myself, so this one came from the library. Another enjoyable outing with Nancy, George, and Bess - and, finally, Ned!! ❤ ❤ ❤

Thanks as always for hosting @Librarybelle !!

#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024

I actually finished this one for #NancyDrewBR before my trip but I‘m finally getting to the review now since not a ton of reading is happening this weekend-mostly sleeping.
Another enjoyable Nancy Drew book—in this one we get to meet Ned Nickerson & while Nancy solves a couple crimes, she isn‘t in as much danger & doesn‘t get knocked out so now the #NancyNogginKnockout or #NNK count is 3/7 books. 🤕 So I guess ⬇️

DebinHawaii …because I read lots of thrillers with serial killers, it brings them taking trophies to mind when Nancy keeps or is given something to commemorate solving a mystery! 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 And this is one of my favorite Nancy Drew book covers! 🏃‍♀️🔥 6d
Librarybelle It‘s a fun book cover! 6d

After the last #NancyDrewBR I was craving a childhood favorite- brown bread in a can and baked beans. In my meat eating days I would have added a chopped hot dog.

Librarybelle Awesome!!! 2w
Soscha My first thought was those were brownies so, ew. I‘ve never tried the canned bread but seems interesting. Not sure it‘s available where we shop. 2w
Tamra @Soscha yes, I thought they were brownies too! 😆 I loved baked beans if they aren‘t overly sweet, that‘s where the hotdog comes in. 2w

RaeLovesToRead Haha, my first thought on seeing this photo is WHAT IS THIS FRESH HELL?? 🤣🤣 2w
Dilara I also thought they were brownies! Having never heard of brown bread in a can, I googled it and it turns out its ingredients are “Water, Whole Wheat Flour, Molasses, Dextrose, Rye Flour, Whey, Degerminated Yellow Corn Meal, Baking Soda,Buttermilk*, Salt,Corn Oil.“ So it's probably quite sweet? Although probably not as much as brownies 😋 😅 2w
Bookwormjillk @Dilara it is sweet, but not brownie sweet! 2w
Bookwormjillk @Soscha mostly a New England thing I think 2w
Dilara @Bookwormjillk That's reassuring 😂 2w
willaful My mom used to love that bread with some cream cheese. I haven't seen it in a long time. 2w
LiseWorks I love baked beans....yum 2w

It really hit me that there‘s real danger in these stories. Nancy and her gal pals get way too close to a house explosion. These books also make me nostalgic for a time when roadside motels served meals and weren‘t scary dens of drug use and desperation.

Bookwormjillk I like how authority figures listen to Nancy when she tells them something bad has happened. 2w
Librarybelle Totally agree! 2w
dabbe 💙🩵💙 your puzzle! 2w
catiewithac @dabbe There were no GSDs on it! 😮 2w

On their way home from the country carnival, Nancy, Bess and George witness the explosion of a country mansion. Nancy‘s instinct is to check if she can save anyone, and as a man is running away she finds a diary.

At the country carnival, the friends had met a mother and her young daughter. The friends decide that they want to do something for the family.

Finally Ned is introduced and help our friends solve the mystery.
