Pickpick

This book follows a family starting in the 1950s. The father works in the oil industry and we see greater society‘s growing understanding about fossil fuels through the eyes of the kids in the activist 60s then the generations up to today. I became engrossed with this one quickly and didn‘t want to put it down. Be aware that while the cover is quite pretty, it really doesn‘t reflect the book.

Decoration Day .. The holiday which we now commemorate as Memorial Day has its origins in the immediate years after the Civil War, when late-May rituals of remembrance and decoration of veterans‘ graves emerged and evolved spontaneously and separately in both the North and the South.⬇️

TheBookHippie Given the prominent role played by the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) in the official adoption of the holiday in the North in the later 19th century, a rather divided commemoration continued all the way up to World War I, which united the nation in remembrance, and widened its circle to encompass American veterans of all conflicts. In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a national holiday by an act of Congress and placed on the last Month of May. 6d
TheBookHippie I always, on this day remember people spitting on the veterans as they returned home from Vietnam and were screamed at and they were just boys 18,19,20 a lot of them. I also remember the week of my birth was one of the most losses of young men in a seven day time frame of younger soldiers. 242 young men lost their lives the week I was born. May their memories be blessings and may we never forget them. 6d
Leftcoastzen Thank you for this post! I have many family members who served , all from WWII & Korea era came home safe. I thank all who served and their families for all their strength. 6d
TheBookHippie @Leftcoastzen I have as well. I was also an Army Brat my dad was drafted when I was 6 weeks old to Vietnam. My grandpa AND his brother served in WW2 and my uncles in Korea. Everyone came home alive but some with PTSD some never recovered. 6d

Pickpick

Set primarily in 1940s France and 1960s Atlanta, this book is a testament to the strength of the human spirit to survive despite unimaginable circumstances and suffering. It realistically portrays the different ways survivors deal with the after effects of such suffering, and showcases how time, faith, determination, hard work, and love (both human and divine) can help the slow process of healing. Tough but worthwhile reading. Christian Fiction.

I have to say that I am glad I am done with this book! It was ssoo slooow. The chapters are extremely long. Characters come and go for no reason, I could understand. I kept losing interest and fell asleep reading it a couple of times. I got to 70% in the before it finally dawned on me what it was all about. Then it just abruptly ended. Of course, this is just my opinion and some others liked it and even loved it. Read it and find out ⬇️

Monica5 what you think about it.
