I almost feel bad because this was my choice for my library‘s book club. The story was intriguing, the way it was presented. Bouncing between 3 perspectives and then two timelines was borderline too much to keep track of. Let alone the present story with Sunny and Kit‘s past story. It just fell flat for me. I did like the aspect of working at a library and being a part of that community. Did not click for me at all.

This was a very challenging read for me! I might have enjoyed it more if I had read Jane Eyre shortly beforehand. My murky memories of Jane Eyre from 40 years ago really didn‘t help me out. I was grateful for the detailed notes in this volume though. Even so—just not for me.

KAO @dabbe “Better books ahead” is always the battle cry! (Plus, I enjoyed reading Rebecca so much that it was a tough act to follow.) (edited) 1d

I thoroughly enjoyed Want to know a secret and this was touted as being like Christie‘s And then there were none. Which I read when I was 12 and still to this day think is one of the best murder mysteries I‘ve ever read. So brave and ambitious to be comparing it to that classic. Well it‘s nothing like ATTWN. It‘s one of the worst things I‘ve ever read. So to anyone comparing it to our Agatha‘s excellent and elegant story I say How very dare you

Cathythoughts How very dare you ! Indeed 😂 5h

There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this book. It's just a terrible book. Most of it was incredibly boring then when you actually got to the "thriller" parts... I would not say thrilling, I would say, extremely disgusting. Nothing about brutal infant death is thrilling to me at all. It's just disturbing. Also, the writing was just absolutely terrible. This book is just terrible people doing terrible things. I wish I could give 0 stars.

alecia3dixie *I did not put a spoiler warning on this because I think it is important to let people know that this book contains infant death before you read it* 3d

I didn't like the writing and found it difficult to distinguish between characters.

I accidentally bought KU for a month so now I'm speed reading my way through recs 😂

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage Careful! KU auto-renews month to month 😱 4d
PuddleJumper @Booksblanketsandahotbeverage Thanks, I cancelled it immediately. I thought I was getting a deal but it went through as a regular subscription 😑 4d

PuddleJumper @willaful Oh no! Don't worry. I was trying a work around and it didn't work. My fault for trying to game the system 😂 3d
willaful I'm sorry anyway. :-( 3d
PuddleJumper @willaful It's all good. Now I can binge read trash which is useful since I'm stressed 🥳 3d

The title and subtitle are very misleading. Instead of being mainly about the killing of Lana Turner's boyfriend by her daughter, it's a biography of Turner up through the events surrounding the killing and trial and a history of organized crime in Hollywood. The section on the killing and trial doesn't really offer any new information or re-evaluate the facts of the case.

⭐️blech! Frustrating, unlikeable characters, unbelievable nonsense! I hated that no one had names and that not one single person believed her. One of the most frustrating characters I ever read in a long time. I expected some cool twist which much would save this book for me. Nope! Lots love it. Good for them. Not for me.

BookMaven9 Most definitely 👍🏼 6d

Get Jiro! | Anthony Bourdain, Joel Rose

Wasn‘t a fan of this. My least favorite part of watching/reading Bourdain‘s works are his opinions about America‘s food culture. In his graphic novel, a corporate chef and a locavore chef battle for control of the upscale dining market. But Jiro, an edo-style sushi chef, and other upholders of food traditions battle back for control of America‘s stomachs. I also never appreciate his fat shaming. That really kills me about him. #hoopla

This book doesn't feel like a biography at all it felt like the author put his on opinions into the book. It was boring, I thought I was never going to finish this book. I rated this book a 2 out of 5 stars.
