I almost feel bad because this was my choice for my library‘s book club. The story was intriguing, the way it was presented. Bouncing between 3 perspectives and then two timelines was borderline too much to keep track of. Let alone the present story with Sunny and Kit‘s past story. It just fell flat for me. I did like the aspect of working at a library and being a part of that community. Did not click for me at all.

This was a very challenging read for me! I might have enjoyed it more if I had read Jane Eyre shortly beforehand. My murky memories of Jane Eyre from 40 years ago really didn‘t help me out. I was grateful for the detailed notes in this volume though. Even so—just not for me.

KAO @dabbe “Better books ahead” is always the battle cry! (Plus, I enjoyed reading Rebecca so much that it was a tough act to follow.) (edited) 1d

I thoroughly enjoyed Want to know a secret and this was touted as being like Christie‘s And then there were none. Which I read when I was 12 and still to this day think is one of the best murder mysteries I‘ve ever read. So brave and ambitious to be comparing it to that classic. Well it‘s nothing like ATTWN. It‘s one of the worst things I‘ve ever read. So to anyone comparing it to our Agatha‘s excellent and elegant story I say How very dare you

Cathythoughts How very dare you ! Indeed 😂 2h

There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this book. It's just a terrible book. Most of it was incredibly boring then when you actually got to the "thriller" parts... I would not say thrilling, I would say, extremely disgusting. Nothing about brutal infant death is thrilling to me at all. It's just disturbing. Also, the writing was just absolutely terrible. This book is just terrible people doing terrible things. I wish I could give 0 stars.

alecia3dixie *I did not put a spoiler warning on this because I think it is important to let people know that this book contains infant death before you read it* 2d

I didn't like the writing and found it difficult to distinguish between characters.

I accidentally bought KU for a month so now I'm speed reading my way through recs 😂

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage Careful! KU auto-renews month to month 😱 3d
PuddleJumper @Booksblanketsandahotbeverage Thanks, I cancelled it immediately. I thought I was getting a deal but it went through as a regular subscription 😑 3d

willaful @PuddleJumper Oh no, I hope that wasn't my fault. :-( 3d
PuddleJumper @willaful Oh no! Don't worry. I was trying a work around and it didn't work. My fault for trying to game the system 😂 3d
willaful I'm sorry anyway. :-( 3d
PuddleJumper @willaful It's all good. Now I can binge read trash which is useful since I'm stressed 🥳 3d

This month‘s IRL book club title, and I was left feeling meh about it. Bernadette is a mail carrier and a widow with a son who is the head high school football coach. She also randomly decides on the 10 year anniversary of her husband‘s death that she has feelings for his bff, who has remained in her and her son‘s life after her husband‘s passing. This helps because he‘s accused of murder, and she feels she must find the killer…despite the ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ …the secrets he seems to be hiding from her. The writing was lackluster, and I rolled my eyes more often than not. It is a cozy mystery, so I suspect the town and characters will develop as the series progresses. I‘ve read worse, but I‘m not going to continue with the series. Should make a good discussion at book club! 4d

Couldn‘t get into this book. In one chapter the author listed flaws writers could give their characters. They said being sensitive was a character flaw. I was done with the book then (feeling big emotions is not a character flaw!) and I decided bail and move on to something more interesting.

TieDyeDude That seems like a pretty glaring misunderstanding of “sensitivity.“ Maybe that's why I've never heard of the author 😁 😉 5d

dabbe @Kerrbearlib I really do love when people bail because if that books on my TBR, it gets crossed off! Too many better ones out there! So, you're helping all of us when you bail or pan! 🤩🤗😀 4d

I decided to bail on Blood Lovers yesterday. I made it to the halfway point and couldn't make myself finish. Sad that I invested that much time not to finish. Yet, I am relieved. #hailthebail

I need to take a break from this type of book for a while…Storylines are starting to run together and I just became exasperated with this one at about 60%.
