#ARC #NetGalley

A travelling theatre actress and a former military surgeon are thrown together to find the Hellfire Club's secrets her brother hid before his death. A letter with clues sends them on a dangerous scavenger hunt followed by men who are ready to kill for those secrets. Naturally the two MCs are attracted to each other, but have their reasons/flaws not to turn their collaboration into a dalliance.

This could turn into a series.

julesG #52bookclub24SummerReadingList #GoingForGold Lots of goals in this book: finding the murderer, finding the hidden item/treasure first, keeping safe, keeping the clues hidden,... + author's name + gold on cover 1h

I like looking for new recipes bc I get tired of fixing the same thing over and over. I found a lot of good recipes to try from breakfast to suppers to deserts. Now if my picky husband will like them🤣

I counted the sections as chapters for the #20in4 there were 6 sections. Brings my total up to 16 Chapters. @Andrew65

Not what I expected, based on the blurb.

It's the end of the 21st century. A class reunion on a luxury space station. There are two ensembles of characters, the ones "below stairs" and the ones "above stairs".

The rich people "above stairs" have rich-people-problems. Foremost, how to outwit the MERIT system that could get them to Mars. They have known each other since school. They have drifted apart, but are happy to ⬇️

#NetGalley #ARC

julesG to reconnect, again mostly to exploit their connections to their own advantage.

The crew "below stairs" is fed up with being invisible, having less value than the rich people. They work on the luxury space station to fund their families' lives down on Earth, which becomes less habitable by the minute.

This could have worked, but it was packed with a bit too much of everything, in my opinion:

- too many POV

⬇️
4d
julesG - so many plot angles: dying Earth, "Capitalism is bad!", exploited workforce is enraged, murder mystery?, MERIT system benefits the rich straight population, another murder mystery in the past timeline, ...

- not a single like-able character

- why all the kinky stuff?
4d
TieDyeDude Thanks for the review! I was interested when I heard about it, but I've seen a couple similar reviews, so I'll likely pass. 4d
julesG @TieDyeDude You can easily skip this one and spend your precious reading time with another book 4d

The stakes are even higher in this mystery when Vivian Kelly is the only suspect in a murder. She has a week to find another suspect for the corrupt commissioner, or she‘s going to jail.

This series just keeps getting better! The countdown did an excellent job of ramping up the tension, we learn more about Honor, & all the side characters are so good! Everything just built. Loved Viv‘s persistence & her reliance on her community. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Great end to a great series. As a reader of historical mystery fiction, I am sad to see it end. Maggie is off to Spain for two reasons. First, Coco Chanel wants her to take a personal letter back to Churchill. Second, to find out if Germany has a bomb.

Loved this latest thriller featuring Lily Kintner and Henry Kimball. They are such compelling and conflicted characters and this was another great page turner. So happy to have a sneak peek at this #ARC that releases on June 11th. Highly recommend, though it is helpful if you‘ve read the first two in the series. #netgalleygroup @AllDebooks #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Stacked! I loved The Kind Worth Killing! Are there others with these characters? 2w
vivastory @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I haven't read it yet, but I believe this is book 2 in the series 2w

A prequel novella to Dawson's HMRC series.

It's an alternate historical fantasy based on the historical figures of Anne Boleyn and her ladies-in-waiting.

The story didn't grip me like the other books in the series. It wasn't just the usual depiction of promiscuous Anne or Anne the witch that didn't sit well with me, what pulled me out of the story most often were the anachronisms used ⬇️

2.5/5 stars

julesG ... the anachronisms used (right now only "sharing a bevy" and "smog" come to mind, but there were more).

All in all an interesting prequel, but it didn't add depth or important information to the existing/contemporary storyline.

This was a WILD horror that had me absolutely hooked. I loved every bit of it and can't believe this is a debut. Please write more, you have a reader here who will read whatever you put out.
Many thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for this ARC in return for my honest review. #arc #atriabooks #weusedtolivehere
