1. Alice, for the trip.
2. Hard for durability, soft for portability... soooo... soft. Final answer.
3. Fantasy, albeit I wanna shoutout to my mom and her true crime stuff.
4. Coke, but root beer or Dr Pepper if you‘ve got it.
5. @LadyJ , my penultimate follower. ✌️

Enjoyed the time spent within these pages. So many horrible things expressed with elegant beauty. I loved it so much, I lent it out to a friend. I‘m just afraid I‘ll never get it back.

Maybe it was the timing, but the first couple of stories were meh... but then, it all just came together beautifully with some heart-wrenching moments and, wouldn‘t you know it, Reader, she kissed him. Warrants another read-through.

After the third story, I realized I was being drawn into something much greater than eleven disparate stories. The imagery is spare, but let it sink in and you'll realize just how dark this work really is.

Tell Me How This Ends Well | David Samuel Levinson
Panpan

At times, I felt the promotion for this book -- anti-semitism running rampant in 2022 -- was a poorly guided, alarmist even, method of promotion. At the base, it's a book about three siblings who must kill their father to save their mother. It can drag at times, but there are shiny pieces every now and then that offer redemption. Still, plenty of crud-rocks lodged in there, too. 😒 Honestly, I wanted to enjoy it more than I did.

Lyrics: 1961-2012 | Bob Dylan

I woke up on the roadside
Daydreamin' 'bout the way things sometimes are
Visions of your chestnut mare
Shoot through my head and are makin' me see stars
You hurt the ones that I love best
And cover up the truth with lies
One day you'll be in the ditch
Flies buzzin' around your eyes
Blood on your saddle

Idiot Wind. The whole damn song. This stanza and henceforth though... it's a well deserved award, just for the recognition.

zugchop I'm drinkin' and thinkin', and, yeah... this. *Most* of his catalog... just think it's a shame that IRL I can't express my happiness over this legitimate appreciation of this poet's work. 8y

The Call of the Wild | Jack London

Something compelled me to reread this introduction to London. It calls to all of us, I guess... discard the shackles of what society expects of us and live free and answer the call that resides in us... Alls I needs now is money to do it in our current world. 😐

LeahBergen I loved this when I read it years ago. I may be due for a reread myself. 8y
zugchop It really called to me 🙄, but yes... I've been revisiting the novels of my youth, and the enhanced profundity of them all... the resources of language can't express what they make me feel. 8y

Gonna be a weird weekend, so if I *do* sign up at 24in48.com, this novella will definitely be on the stack... Or I could just read it tonight... 🤔

Started this early in the evening, and I just couldn't stop. 😬
This hasn't happened in quite a while... Made me wanna get the hell outta that situation along with the protagonist. 🌊

Mehso-so

Although parts of it can feel rushed (maybe better adapted for a film sequence) or out of place, there's still some substance beneath the simplicity. Lots of the religious symbolism inherent in most of his work and a copious amount of copulation.

Finally nearing the end of a long string of life-altering events that may not even be for the better... Finally getting back to the books I started a long time ago... Maybe I can find some solace in these pages. 😬

@Angelala007 this may be one of the first books I purchased with my own money. The illustrations are what *really* creeped me out.

Angelala007 There you go, @zugchop ! I knew you would remember! And I think I read this book! I remember a school friend reading a scary story out loud and I'm pretty sure it was from this book or one of the others in the series. Thank you for the memory 😊 8y

Pretty sentences describing destruction, the quick and the chronic, among the disparate lives caught in the circumference of a small explosion.

While not as complex as his earlier novels, it does bring up issues concerning media bias and its inherent ability to implant ideologies and even alter history through subtle suggestions. Two weeks after finishing it, I'm still thinking about this book. Eco was a brilliant man. He will be missed.

Difficult day. Family time can be trying, but you either try making the most with what you're given or be overwhelmed by it. Camouflaged against the chair, I sit and read alone. Maybe someday.

Why does the rooster crow a hundred and fifty times? Because if it crowed thirty-three times, it would be Grand Master of the Freemasons.
