This SF novel by Veronica Roth is still one of my favorites! It‘s taken place in the future where this town is divided into 5 sections based on their personality. You follow through Tris‘ life where she realizes what kind of world she‘s living in. Children in middle school would love this book and it would be good as a IR. It would be awesome if students answered these questions in a PowerPoint form and presented to the class.

The One and Only Ivan is a F book by Katherine Applegate that received a Newbery Medal. This book is about Ivan, a Silverback Gorilla, and his other animal friends stuck in cages at a mall, not knowing what it‘s like to love a normal life. This book is definitely for children in around the 4th grade. I think this book should be read as a LC so your students can talk about their feelings from the book and what they think will happen next.

Henry‘s Freedom Box is a HF children‘s book that would be read best as a GR. This book by Ellen Levine is based on a true story from the Underground Railroad. This book won the Coretta Scott King award and Caldecott Medal. When reading this book, it would be best to read when going into a History lesson about the Underground Railroad. This book would give the students a little background knowledge prior to the lesson.

This P collections book by Shel Silverstein is a amazing book that takes you far past imagination for children. Within the book, it takes you to ways that children could see the world versus an adult. Many parents see this book to be rebellious and don‘t like it because it teaches students to be rude. I remember reading this as a kid and my teacher had us pick our favorite poem from the book and find the main idea, setting and characters.

This hilarious F children‘s book by Drew Daywalt is something that everyone in the schools should read! We were read this book in class and everyone agrees that the book was amazing. I would have this book as a DR with students. This book is about all of the different colored crayons wanting to quit and their reasoning behind it. This would be a great lesson into for teaching students about the different colors.

Grab your tissue box because the book “Out of My Mind” by Sharon Draper is going to mess with your emotions!! This RF would be awesome for an AS for students. Sharon Draper is a great author for students to study on because of all her amazing books she‘s published. Out of my mind is about a girl who has cerebral palsy and only can keep her words inside because she can‘t talk. Later on she gets a device that she‘s always wanted that helps her speak

This SF book by Madeline L‘Engle is a Newbery Award Winner. This would great read as a LC because peers can sit down and talk about what was read every couple chapters. Meg and her brother adventure through time and space to rescue her father. “Something Big Has Been Here” is a P book by Jack Prelutsky and Illustrated by James Stevenson. This is a collection of poems that will make children laugh their pants off. There are different kinds of poems so students can flip through it and pick what they want to read. I would have this book as a DR or CR for the class. This Caldecott winner TL children‘s book such a cute book that extends from the story Humpty Dumpty. In this book, Humpty Dumpty is scared to live his life and super scared of heights. He one days gets the courage to go up on the wall and when he‘s up on the wall there is a twist that no one expects. This would be great as a SR for the class. A lesson that would work great for this book is to teach students the format of a story.

The book “The War That Saved Me” is a HF book that would be beneficial as a SR with students around middle school. (Schneider Family Book Award & Newberry Honor Award) The main character, Ada, has never been out of her house before due to her twisted foot. When her brother gets shipped to London to escape the war, she follows. Ada‘s brother and Ada get close to a woman in London that takes them in.

Who Was Walt Disney is a B book all about how Walt Disney lived his life and everything behind the magic. It starts off from him as a kid and how he lived his childhood. This is something that will really spark the interest in children as a PR because it is all about the creator of Disney! This Biography (B) Martin‘s Big Words, by Doreen Rappaport, is the Jane Addams Children‘s Book Award winner & a Caldecott award winner. This is a book about Martin Luther King Jr and his life story. He is one of the most influential people in history so this would be good to read as RA. This is a great introduction into civil rights and MLK‘s story.

This NF book by Kris Rattini is a book that will keep readers interested. The book about Tornados and everyday weather will inform students about things like what causes thunder and lightning and what makes a tornado twist! The real life pictures will make it seems like you‘re there with weather. This book would be a great PR for students. Reading this book with a friend would keep both students eager to talk about dangerous weather afterward.

This NF book by Anne Schneider is an exciting book for beginner readers! This would be a great IR for students. The mix of fun facts and super colorful photos will make students super interested in learning about Sharks. This can be a great introduction to a lesson plan about sharks! The book The Ugly Duckling (TL) by Hans Christian Andersen, won the Caldecott Honor Award. This is a classic and almost everyone knows the storyline! A little "duckling" gets bullied all his life as a child because he didn't look like the rest. When he grows up he ends up growing to be a swan, the most beautiful bird of them all. Some younger students might not understand the message behind this book so they will need help understanding.

This SF children's book, A Ticket Around the World, is perfect for a student‘s IR. A young boy hops around the globe and visits his friends that live all around the world. This book, written by Natalia Diaz and Melissa Owens, takes you to the 6 populated continents and gives you facts about each. They talk about important facts, geography and culture of each continent. After reading this book, I want to add this to my future classroom library!

Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type (F) by Doreen Cronin is a very humorous book for young readers. This is a Caldecott Honor Book that would keep kids laughing and thinking about what happens next. It tells a story about cows, a farmer and ducks on the farm. The farmer gets aggravated that the cows won‘t be cows don‘t do their work and will only type. The cows and the farmer get into a little feud and at the end of the book there is a funny twist.

Big Words for Little People (RF) is a great book to use as an interactive RA. This book travels through a series of big words and explains what each of them mean through little real life incidents. Jamie Lee Curtis does a great job with connecting strong vocabulary words like cooperate, respect, considerate and patience to life lessons that children need to know. The book takes you through things that happen as a family.
