I loved the colors and how culture is displayed in the book. It‘s so cool to see how different people live and I think kids would like that as well.

#lae3414sp19 A Ticket Around the World by Natalia Diaz is a nonfiction children‘s book. This book is about a boy who travels across 13 countries and shares with us the cultural differences between each one. This book is a great way to teach students geography and the history of other countries while not feeling like they are bombarded with too many facts.

Kcallihan The ESOL strategy I would use for this would be #24, incorporate the culture and the language of second language learners in your curriculum. A way to do this is by making the student feel engaged when their country is brought up and even allowing them to share some of their personal cultural experiences if he/she feels comfortable. The UDL strategy I would use would be 2.5, illustrate through multiple media. 5y
Kcallihan Since this book is filled with so many facts, I believe it would be beneficial if the teacher provided aids such as pointing to the classroom map or even pulling up google maps together as a class. This way they not only learn about the culture but also get to see hands on where it is occurring. The lesson plan I would use for this book is:

DrSpalding What a fabulous book and resource. I like that the resource encourages interdisciplinary teaching. This book can obviously be used to teach geography skills like mapping. 5y
dayuso1 I enjoy how thorough you were in explaining how you would extend this reading selection to geography. Great resource and great idea! 5y

This SF children's book, A Ticket Around the World, is perfect for a student‘s IR. A young boy hops around the globe and visits his friends that live all around the world. This book, written by Natalia Diaz and Melissa Owens, takes you to the 6 populated continents and gives you facts about each. They talk about important facts, geography and culture of each continent. After reading this book, I want to add this to my future classroom library!

taywise393 Although it still tells a story, it really gives lots of facts for students to stay engaged. I would use this lesson plan that is associated with the book. http://www.owlkidsbooks.com/Portals/0/4.ATicketAroundTheWorld_0326.pdf This would satisfy the UDL 1.1 and 1.3 with the different ways the information is displayed. ESOL strategies that would be used are 4 and 29. #lae3414sp19 (edited) 5y
DrSpalding Was this in the CMC? Looks wonderful however it is not SF. The boy in the story isn‘t real but visits real places....so it is what genre? 5y
taywise393 It was a book I had back home! Realistic fiction? 5y
