This makes so much sense.
The last time I was at Barnes & Noble, this book was sold out, and the time before, 1984 was sold out. I love the sudden interest in classic dystopians. They tell a lot more about our society than many people realize.
pickI love hiking, and I have my own dreams of potentially hiking the Appalachian Trail, so naturally I decided to read a pretty funny account of Bill Bryson's attempt. He also discusses the interesting history of the trail, the areas around it, and current environmental concerns that National Parks and Forests face.
A cozy night with wine and a book. This collection of advice columns is so much more than just letters and responses. Cheryl Strayed's careful responses to her readers include beautiful and emotional anecdotes from her own life.
so-soI'm continuing my YA kick. Normally I love romance--particularly this sort of romance is a great guilty pleasure--but I think this book was too much for me. It was just too sappy and too dramatic at times. My overwhelming response to this book was "meh."
pickNormally I don't pick up historical fantasy, but I loved this! Corinne and Ada are best friends and hemopaths--they can influence the emotions and thoughts of other people. In 1919 Boston, they work at the Cast Iron nightclub for gangster/owner Johnny Dervish, performing shows at night and conning the rich during the day. It was so easy to get lost in the world Destiny Soria creates, and I loved Corinne and Ada's friendship. Comes out in October!
pickIf you love the complicated, serious topics of Ellen Hopkins' books, you will love this book. Ready to take full blame for her brother Cyrus's death, CeCe is preparing for her court case while staying in the Behavioral Therapy unit of a juvenile correctional facility. Beautifully written with vivid imagery, the novel flips between present and past as we learn about Cyrus's addiction to Oxycontin and how it affects his family.
I had a Barnes and Noble gift card and ordered this book a few days ago. It finally came today! I've heard really good things about this collection of short stories, and I'm hoping to find time to read it sooner rather than later.
Sunday mornings are the best for sleeping in and reading in bed. I got this as an ARC from a coworker. If you like Sarah Dessen then you'll like this book. I personally love contemporary YA that takes place during the summer.
I can't believe it's been 9 years since the midnight release of The Deathly Hallows but I'm so happy I got to be at Barnes and Noble again, waiting for midnight to get the next Harry Potter book. And of course, I won't be sleeping soon...
I'm finally getting around to reading the books I got at BookCon! I chose this one for my flight, and it's a fun read so far. Cynthia's best friend Annie falls for the new librarian, who happens to be a demon. Also, musical theater is involved.
"And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure."
What I love most about this novel is the way Greenwell integrates Bulgarian into his prose. Truly beautiful writing.
