Pickpick

Tookie isn‘t the only one haunted. The primarily-NDN cast is fleshed out, realistic. Each one has flaws and must address them. Each one is haunted by something. The characters drive the plot at just the right pace to reflect on social problems without becoming props.

Erdrich‘s spare prose belies a complexity that works on a myriad of levels. Even if you miss references to mythology or other literature, it will not affect the captivating story.

Fell asleep before I could upload this pic of girls‘ night.

This book is as sweet as candy corn and twice as corny. A peppy Halloween read for sure — but the thrilling bits feel rushed to fit in the romantic ones. #romance #bookofthemonth #halloween #

Mehso-so

When Jack returns home to find missing children, he has to confront more than just the spirits to set things right.

This is definitely THE pick for anyone who‘s enjoyed a rollicking D&D campaign. The world-building is sturdy without being Tolkien. You will 100% fall in love with Sidra (okay, that might just be me). The ending is disappointing — too open-ended to wrap up anything, which ends up feeling a bit cash-grab. #botm #longreads #fantasy
