Not my personal favorite. The writing was well done, but I did not love the story. I had trouble relating to the main character, and I feel some facts and information was skipped over. I also strongly disliked part 3 / the ending. I found it frustrating and boring. I can see how someone could love this book because different people relate to different characters, and like I said, the writing was very well done, but it just wasn't for me.

I'm curious on other people's opinion of this book...

I am personally not a big fan :/ The first 2/3 were a bit slow. The last 1/3 did pick up a little bit, but there was no wow moment for me. I also found it hard to connect with the characters. The writing style flowed well, and the creativity in the story line definitely took a lot of work. But it just didn't do it for me, personally. Overall, it was an easy and relaxing read.

Pickpick

This book is so beautiful. I wanted to read it again right away!
-The translated version does have some grammar/sentence mistakes.
-There are weird moments that seem out of character for the tone, but I think that's part of its beauty!
-The ending does not tie up loose ends & leaves you wanting more. It makes you almost feel empty while leaving you in deep thought.
-Overall, this is one of the most beautiful & amazing books I've ever read!

Bransted I love this book. I've read it maybe three times. I rarely reread. It is so unlike Mankell's other books. Goes right to my heart. 2y

I found this book to be very decent, but sadly not memorable. I read it first over ten years ago and gave it another go recently. The characters seemed realistic and relatable, but the book itself had no wow moment for me. Evenly paced, solid character development. I guess you could say a very cookie cutter book. I'm sorry that I don't have much else to say about it. I didn't love it, but I definitely don't regret reading it at the same time.
