After doing a favor for an old colleague, a British secret agent gets caught in the crosshairs of a conspiracy and his family suffers the consequences .

It's a spy story with very little cloak and dagger, but its domestic focus is cleverly written and riveting throughout.

MyBookLife Sounds good!! I read A Spell of Winter a few months back. Have you that one? 8y
LibrarianMike773 This was my first by this author. I enjoy spy novels so I thought I'd give it a try. I liked her writing style so maybe I'll try another by her someday 8y

An intense suspense story aboard a 19th century whaling ship.

Sort of a cross between Cormac McCarthy, Jack London, and the Sex Pistols' song Friggin' in the Riggin' (https://youtu.be/tRotvCVKAe8)

Racism, family drama, a road trip, and a bit of magic add up for a spell-binding coming of age story that has the makings of a modern classic.

The ultimate superhero conflict with strong political themes, and essential reading for anyone who wants to know what inspired the new Cap' move.

iread2much Have you read the entire run? I think the fantastic four tie-ins were some of the best, although Spider-Man was also really well done. 8y

A poorly written time travel story starring two pretentious music snobs who fall in love through a terribly contrived and senseless scenario. 👎

An absolutely brilliant collection of stories featuring colorful characters, with dramatic interwoven lives, told over the course of a tumultuous century in Russian history. Highly recommended.

At times, this story about an African-American family hired to teach a chimpanzee to speak is both uncomfortable and challenging. Yet, it's a compelling book and one that I will not soon forget.

Fast-paced psychological suspense with a cast of suspects straight out of the Jerry Springer Show.

With its downtrodden characters, rural setting, and well-developed relationships (not to mention the major twist), I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see this turned into a series.

katielibrarian Sounds good! 8y
LibrarianMike773 Yeah, none of my holds had come in so I randomly grabbed it based solely on the cover, and it was really good! 8y

Children who return from fairy tale lands are placed in a wayward home. But what happens when they begin to turn up dead?

Very reminiscent of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, its interesting premise is never fully realized and the obvious murder mystery made this a lackluster read.

Excellent story of hope, love, loss, and making the most of our present time - written within a post-apocalyptic setting.

As a fan of the old show, I was disappointed by the majority of the book since it focused on the Depp film and the attempts at reviving the series. But the single chapter in which we get a behind the scenes look at the original series was great.

Also, I loved the clever Downton spoof cover!

Set shortly after World War I, two girls mysterious disappear from their family's farm in Iowa.

Told from a variety of perspectives, this is a vividly written suspense story about two girls, born of German immigrants, and the troubles they and their family encounter in the wake of the Great War.
