I so appreciated Kristin Hannah staging a plot around the traumas faced by Vietnam Veterans. As the daughter of a Vietnam vet, it‘s rare that I can read about their characterizations, but this sad tale kept me hooked.

Rick Bragg is the voice of the Southern soul. His sentences put flesh on a myth and remind us of the magic of words. Brilliant, haunting, and unforgettable.

Enjoyed this “gothic” novel and it‘s complicated drama. Beautifully written.

I thought this was such an incredible story, I forgot it was based on a real woman's journey. My imagination kept dovetailing with the movie, Out of Africa, which might have been the author's intent. I'll be thinking about this complicated, riddle of a character for quite some time. I fully expect a movie.

Found this treasure at Gladewater Books yesterday. One of those swayed shelf used book stores that save the bestsellers (and some not so bestsellers) from the past for #book lovers to discover all over again.

What a mesmerizing novel. Artful blend of fact and fiction, revealing the "what ifs" in a brilliant authors life.

By chapter three, I'm totally sucked into the WWII homefront dramas facing good people along the Great Lakes.

I'm reading this book and it asked the question " how many creative people do you know and from which mediums." I thought for a few minutes, replaying a photo album of friends and their various arts from painting, to music, sculpture, fabrics, and words and was stunned by the volume of creative fiends in my life. What a blessing! I hope to tell them all how their creativity inspires me.
