Such a refreshing, quick, and enjoyable chosen read after a long semester of assigned reading. Not as strong as McKay's previous works. The ending left a lot unanswered & I wanted more Eleanor, the strongest character of the book by far. As is always the risk with past character revivals, I found it hard to accept Moth's latest story line over what I'd imagined for her life after reading The Virgin Cure.

When a quiet read aloud with the kids turns into a super intense talk about colonialism. "Well my Peruvian name is a bit out there.... Oh don't worry, we'll give you an English one that insinuates your entire identity revolves around us SAVING you from this train platform" ... Come.on. Also I love this book.

MrBook Ohh! I remember Paddington Bear! A childhood favorite 😊👍🏻. 8y

Found this laying around at the cabin. It's awesome if you read it in your best Duchovny impression.

MrBook 😎👍🏻 8y
Qemorio The audio of both of his books is wonderful because he reads them. 8y

Maybe Beulah was seeing something more clearly on the nights she had these dreams, a little black child fighting in her sleep against an opponent she couldn't name come morning because in the light that opponent just looked like the world around her. Intangible evil. Unspeakable unfairness.

I always think I'll get so much reading done in the long lazy days of summer. But. Kids. Haha. Going is slow but I love this book so far. The view point of Werner. A victim of the aggressors on the aggressor's 'side' is a story that needs to be told more often. Injustice starts at home.

Nena.Hawkes Oh Mike bought me this book and I haven't had a chance to sit down with it yet. It's good? 8y
Julian.Wotherspoon @Nena.Hawkes I liked it a lot. Definitely plan to read something lighter immediately after. 8y

I am so excited for this book. As a birth worker, a reproductive health advocate, and as a parent, I'm so happy that Trevor is sharing his story. Despite the tragedy in Orlando we are all mourning today. Love always finds a way. Happy families exist in all different shapes. ❤️💛💚💙💜

Loving both Birdie and Shrill but should probably clean up the currently reading pile. Finished Time Being (so good) and thinking I may bail on Bliss and All The Broken Things. At least for now.

Julian.Wotherspoon @BookishFeminist thank you! One time I said I thought kraken were cool so now every birthday and Christmas my kids get me kraken stuff and it's awesome. 8y
BookishFeminist @Julian.Wotherspoon I should try that & see if I get similar results 🤔 8y
moonandpeach I need to do something like that ^ my entire family still gifts me all things Sanrio. It's cute but I'd rather kraken, or ... Something different. Haha 8y

My eldest has been really into survival stories so I went rummaging the used book store for this one. I honestly can't remember much about the story so it will hopefully be fun to read together.

Checking in with Chief Inspector Gamache & the gang. I Love that Armand Gamache is written as a gentle, non-violent, thoughtful, and well cultured man while leaving no doubt of his leadership & masculinity. We need more characters like him in the mystery/police drama genre.

Insomniacmom I am starting this series sometime this weekend- looking forward to it! 8y

It took me a longtime to chew through this book but I'm so glad to have experienced it. The premise is so gloriously original and I WANTED to rush. But something held me back. How very... Time Being.

IndyHannaJones I liked this book a lot...but the ending left me a little cold. And it made me feel all sorts of strange things which is not bad 8y
Julian.Wotherspoon @Hyaeger I know what you mean. after 'the dream sequence' I felt a little pulled away from the threads I was most enjoying & it started to feel a bit contrived. But Ruth Ozeki walked that edge with grace and I feel like it ended up working over-all. 8y
IndyHannaJones My mom bought me the book so it was special regardless and I loved learning about Japan's contrasts and culture. So I give it an A-... 8y

Think about it. Where do words come from? They come from the dead. We inherit them. Borrow them. Use them for a time to bring the dead to life.

Tonight while attending an event at The Art Gallery Of Regina I stumbled upon a great exhibition. It took me a full lap & a half of the gallery to realize the subtle yet wonderfully executed Alice themes of size, perspective, transformation, and tea. Local friends go check it out!

Great read. Though conscious of the fact that Young Harriet isn't meant to be a lovable character I never the less fell in love with her. I didn't connect as keenly with Irwin but found him intriguing as well. I liked the disfunction, drama, and all the colorful characters of the shangrila.

BiscuitMunroe Do you own this? 8y

Intense and heart breaking. Cure for Death By Lightning is a raw coming of age story. The many ways in which Beth meets the evils of the world as she comes of age provide some great thinking on sexuality, racism, spirituality, and abuse. At times tough to read (emotionally), definite trigger warning
