Quote stated by Irene regarding the school library on the campus of Prince Mordred's Private Academy for Boys: "The atmosphere of the place soothed her automatically; the rich lantern-lights, the sheer scent of paper and leather, and the fact that everywhere she looked, there were books, books, beautiful books"(p.12).

Nikolai regarding reading: "Each spine had been a doorway whispering, Come in, come in. Here is a land you've never seen before. Here is a place to hide when you're frightened, to play when you're bored, to rest when the world seems unkind."

Pickpick

I must say that after reading Bardugo's Shadow and Bone trilogy, I was a bit skeptical about moving on to a duology by the same author. But I will say that Bardugo has a way of making you fall in love with her characters, and in this particular book, she keeps the reader constantly wondering what's going to happen, because just when you think you've figured it out, another plot twist gets thrown in the mix. Can't wait to start #2!

Battle Magic | Tamora Pierce

"I'm not the interesting one. That's Briar, and Rosethorn, and Parahan. They've done all these things, and they know languages, and books, and different people. I just know stones. Not even all of those. She yawned. Then I look forward to our meeting with your friends. Truly, Evumeimei, do not value yourself so little. You are a bright light in my underground home" (p.302).

"Watching Rosethorn until she left the twins for this strange temple was probably all of the orange he was going to get. Half of the fruit was better than none" (p. 208).

Tris to Glaki, "And you can tell yourself stories, just like your mother and your aunts tell you stories. You could tell yourself stories about the family you will have one day. I have a wonderful family now. And you know, Glaki, that your mother and your aunt still love you, wherever they are" (p.232).
